Additional Explanations

Form 990, Part III, Line 4D

Program Service Expenses 18,710, Grants and allocations 0, Revenue 5,629 Artbeat presented Irish Tenor, Anthony Kearns in aprogram of traditional and classical music at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center to a small but appreciative audience.

Form 990, Part III, Line 4D

Program Service Expenses 12,234, Grants and allocations 0, Revenue 2,626 Taylor 2 Paul Taylor Dance Company, a six member touring company was presented in Missoula, Montana where Artbeat has occasionally presented a three-show season in cooperation with University of Montana Productions. The performance was well received. Of special note six young dancers from a rural Native American community of Arlee, south of Missoula attended the perfomance and a workshop offered by the companys director, Ruth Ahrens. The director of Missoula Dance Collective, Heather Adams, who picked up the girls said that on their way to Missoula, the girls chatted like young teenagers, But last night, they were young people whos minds were growing in that very moment. New connections were being made in the car and passions were being ignited

Form 990, Part III, Line 4D

Program Service Expenses 301,530, Grants and allocations 0, Revenue 375 300,090 of the total is allocated to Admin and the balance 1,440 is allocated to Fund Raising. The total revenue of 375 is from Admin.

Form 990, Part IV, Line 4

The compensation of 140,000 was paid to Mr. David Shaw, the President and Cheif Operating Officer of Artbeat but not paid by Artbeat. The 140,000 was paid to Black Point for the lease of Mr. Shaws Services to Artbeat. Therefore Artbeat has no reportable compensation where Mr. Shaw is concerned since the compensation paid to Mr. Shaw was paid by and reported by Black Points FEIN 90-0572187, for the calendar year 12/31/14. Therefore, there is no compensation reported on Part VII, Section A, Line 8 nor Sch J for Mr. Shaw.

Form 990, Part XII, Line 2C

The full board was consulted on hiring of the auditor. Once we hired an auditor, we needed to create an audit committee. After reviewing many models, we decided to have our finance committee, serve as the audit committe as they were the board members most capable of tracking the audit process and responding to recommendations.

IRS990/Desc0In The Mood Artbeat first presented IN THE MOOD in 2008 at 4 west coast venues. The show is uplifting for seniors and people who know and love swing music, jitterbug dancing, and have strong associations with WWII and the patriotic and nostalgic era that IN THE MOOD brings to life on stage. During our 2014 fiscal year, we presented IN THE MOOD in 64 venues with 131 performances, serving approximately 89,294 people. Average age of attendees was 69 many who have seen the show several times. Whenever possible we provide free tickets for veterans home residents working with local volunteers who coordinate vans and arranage for companions. Artbeat presents in large cities such as Seattle, Glendae, Fort Worth, San Antonio and also small sities such as Antioch, CA Greenville TX, Osceola FL, and Benton Harbor, MI, Boston MA, and smaller venues. The second act of the concert reprises the music of WWII culminating in having patrons who served in the armed forces at any time in their lives stand while the orchestra plays and the vocalists sing Army, Navy, Marine other service songs.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0FOREVER TANGO Forever Tango has been seen around the world on every continent but one by seven million people. The show has been performed on Broadway three times. Traditional bandoneon accordionds as the centerpiece of a 9-piece Argentine orchestra with founder Luis Brovo playing cello which accompanies twelve tango dancers who perfom as couples and in a few ensemble pieces. The show is an exquisite, passionate rendition of Argentine Tango, which has a serious, formal aesthetic unlinke ballroom tango. Mr. Brovo says Tango is a story you tell in three minutes. Its passionate, its melancholic, its tender, its violent. Artbeat brought Tango to a diversity of of communities, and Sophisticated cities such as, Boston MA, Austin TX, Carmel, Walnut Creek , and little known Visalia CA.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0NEW SHAGHAI CIRCUS, was the first Chinesse Acrobat troup to perform on Broadway. They embody a 2000 year-old tradition of juggling, balancing, big washu, towers of people balancing in precarious tableaus, spinning plates, giant yo-yos flung in perfect unison, etc. In the winter of 2013 we presented the company in the small towns of Merced, Hanford, Longview, Sierra Vista and the larger communities of Walnut Creek, San Diego, and Eugene OR. The show is of intest to young and old. It represents an artform and way of life that is without political meaning and has survived through many changes of government in China. Many of the stunts use skillls familar to gymnasts and dancers. The Chinese circus succeeds in being universally accessible and joyous, as much art tries to be. It celebrates skill dedication and concentration. Chinese Circus art helps people appreciate diversity and respect the accomplishments of a culture that has not relied on technology nor machines for some of its greatest achievements. 5,355 attended 9 perfomances in four states.
