Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

Form 990 is prepared by an outside tax professional. The first draft of the form 990 is reviewed by safe's executive director. A final draft of the form 990 is then provided to all members of the board of directors for comment and revision, as applicable. The final form 990 is then filed with the internal revenue service.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

The board of directors reviews all potential conflicts of interest at least annually. All personnel and board members are required to disclose potential conflicts and any related party affiliations annually. Loans between safe and members of management and the board are strictly prohibited. Safe seeks full transparency on all relationships. Any potential conflicts (in fact or appearance) are discussed openly and resolved in accordance with safe's policies and procedures.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

The board of directors reviews the compensation of all high-level personnel annually. Efforts are made to secure compensation data from industry sources in order to determine competitveness and appropriateness of salaries. Every effort is made to ensure that the process is thorough and transparent in accordance with irs guidelines and safe's policies and procedures.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 18

Safe's forms 1023 and 990 are maintained in a secure environment and held available for inspection by tax authorities and the general public upon request.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

Accounting standards require an organization to evaluate its tax positions and provide for a liability for any positions that would not be considered 'more likely than not' to be upheld under a tax authority examination. Management has evaluated its tax positions and has concluded that a provision for a tax liability is not necessary at june 30, 2022. Generally, sf safe's information returns remain open for examination for a period of three (federal) or four (state of california) years from the date of filing.
