Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The draft of the return is provided to the board president and treasurer for review prior to filing. The board president and treasurer review the tax return for any errors or omissions. When the process is complete, the tax return is signed and then filed with the internal revenue service.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

A conflict of interest policy is reviewed by the board of trustees annually. Board trustees annually sign the conflict of interest statement. Officers and key employees sign and return the acknowledgement page of their employee handbook, which contains the conflict of interest policy.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

Compensation of the school's officers and key employees is reviewed by the board compensation committee. The annual compensation increase is determined by a formula using comparable compensation for similar positions.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

Governing documents, conflict of interest policy and financial statements are made available upon request. Documents are made available for the period of time per sec 6104(d).

Financial Statement Notes

PART V, LINE 4:

Long term support of school's goals.

PART X, LINE 2:

The school is exempt from federal and state income taxes under the internal revenue code section 501(c)(3) and by the california revenue and taxation code 23701d. Accordingly, it has not provided for income taxes in these financial statements. Each year, management considers whether any material tax position the school has taken is more likely than not to be sustained upon examination by the applicable taxing authority. Management believes that any positions the school has taken are supported by substantial authority, and hence, do not need to be measured or disclosed in these financial statements.

PART XI, LINE 4B - OTHER ADJUSTMENTS:

Fundraising expenses reclassed to revenue -73,942.

PART XII, LINE 4B - OTHER ADJUSTMENTS:
