REFORMING GOVERNANCE: OPEN PRIMARYCO-LED THE CAMPAIGN TO PASS PROPOSITION 14 IN JUNE 2010, WHOSE PASSAGE WILL MAKE THE SYSTEM MORE OPEN TO MODERATE LEGISLATIVE CANDIDATES. THE LEAD CAMPAIGN CONSULTANT CALLED THE LEADERSHIP GROUP THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT SUPPORTER OF THE CAMPAIGN, AFTER THE GOVERNOR AND LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR.PROTECTING CALIFORNIA'S GREEN ECONOMY PLAYED A KEY ROLE IN THE CAMPAIGN TO DEFEAT PROPOSITION 23, WHICH WOULD HAVE DONE ENORMOUS DAMAGE TO CALIFORNIA'S LEADERSHIP OF THE GREEN ECONOMY. THE LEADERSHIP GROUP WAS ACTIVELY ENGAGED THROUGHOUT THE CAMPAIGN, INCLUDING EARLY ADVOCACY IN SACRAMENTO, CEO AND SENIOR EXECUTIVE BRIEFINGS, MEDIA ENGAGEMENT, HOSTING HIGH-PROFILE PUBLIC EVENTS, RECRUITING COALITION MEMBERS AND FUNDRAISING. BUILDING COALITIONS FOR HIGH SPEED RAIL SPEARHEADED CREATION OF TWO COALITIONS TO SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT OF HIGH-SPEED RAIL IN CALIFORNIA AND THROUGH SILICON VALLEY: THE ALLIANCE FOR SUSTAINABLE TRANSIT AND JOBS AND THE SILICON VALLEY HIGH SPEED RAIL COALITION.ADVANCING HEALTH CARE REFORMPROVIDE KEY SUPPORT FOR HEALTH CARE REFORM IMPLEMENTATION BILLS ON THE STATE LEVEL, INCLUDING BILLS BY SEN. ALQUIST AND ASSM. PEREZ, TO SET UP AN INSURANCE EXCHANGE, MAKING CALIFORNIA THE FIRST STATE TO DRAW BILLIONS IN FEDERAL FUNDS TO SET IT UP. OTHER BILLS THAT WE HELPED PASS MAKE IT EASIER FOR CONSUMERS TO UNDERSTAND AND COMPARE HEALTH PLANSADVOCATING AFFORDABLE HOMESENDORSED FOUR LAND USE PROPOSALS TOTALING 1,222 HOMES. DIRECTED 20 EDUCATIONAL FORUMS ON HOUSING, ATTRACTING 395 PARTICIPANTS LEADING TO 39 NEW HOUSING ADVOCATES. TRAINING LOCAL MATH TEACHERSIN JUST FOUR YEARS, THE LEADERSHIP GROUP HAS PROVIDED MORE THAN 270 LOCAL TEACHERS WITH 80 HOURS OF INTENSIVE MATH INSTRUCTION, THROUGH THE LEADERSHIP GROUP'S MIDDLE SCHOOL MATH INITIATIVE. IN 2010, 74 LOCAL TEACHERS WERE TRAINED, WITH A GOAL OF 100 MORE IN 2011.FACILITATING COMMON GREEN BUILDING STANDARDSWITH THE SUPPORT OF THE LEADERSHIP GROUP, SEVENTEEN CITIES AND TOWNS IN SILICON VALLEY HAVE ADOPTED "REACH" GREEN BUILDING POLICIES. FACILITATED CONSENSUS ON GREEN BUILDING POLICY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE BAY AREA THROUGH THE BAY AREA CLIMATE COLLABORATIVE. ADVANCING BART TO SILICON VALLEYHELPED TO SECURE ANOTHER $40 MILLION IN STATE FUNDING FOR THE BART TO SILICON VALLEY EXTENSION.GROWING COMMUNITY: THE APPLIED MATERIALS SILICON VALLEY TURKEY TROTINCREASED PARTICIPATION IN THIS SIXTH ANNUAL EVENT TO MORE THAN 14,000 PEOPLE, RAISING MORE THAN $450,000 FOR THE SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK, THE CHILDRENS HEALTH INITIATIVE AND THE HOUSING TRUST OF SANTA CLARA COUNTY. THE SILICON VALLEY TURKEY TROT IS NOW THE 3RD LARGEST EVENT OF ITS KIND IN THE NATION. GROWING LEADERS: SILICON VALLEY WOMEN & GIRLS LEADERSHIP SUMMITSLAUNCHED THESE INSPIRATIONAL SUMMITS, WHICH FEATURE PROMINENT PRIVATE AND PUBLIC SECTOR WOMEN LEADERS AND MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS AT LOCAL SCHOOLS. MORE THAN 650 STUDENTS WERE REACHED IN 2010.FACILITATING COST-EFFECTIVE ENERGY EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENTSTHROUGH THE INTEGRATED DEMAND SIDE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM, SAVED MEMBER COMPANIES 3,277 KILOWATTS OF POWER, POSITIVELY IMPACTING THEIR BOTTOM LINES WHILE REDUCING OUR REGIONS ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS.
