Mission

The foundation for hearing research operates for the sole purpose of supporting non-public special day programs in northern california where deaf and hard of hearing children learn to listen, think, and talk. These special schools offer diagnostic, educational, and training programs for deaf children and their families from birth to first grade.

HIGHLY TRAINED STAFF USING SPECIAL TECHNOLOGY, SUCH AS BILATERAL COCHLEAR IMPLANTS, DIGITAL HEARING AIDS, FM SYSTEMS, AND ADVANCED COGNITIVE TEACHING STRATEGIES ASSIST YOUNG DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING CHILDREN REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL BY DEVELOPING AGE APPROPRIATE LISTENING AND SPOKEN LANGUAGE SKILLS. THE TWO SCHOOLS FUNCTION INDEPENDENTLY BUT SHARE THE SAME EDUCATIONAL MODEL. BOTH ARE CONSIDERED MODELS OF EXCELLENCE IN EFFECTIVE EARLY INTERVENTION IN DEVELOPING LISTENING AND SPOKEN LANGUAGE AND COGNITIVE COMPETENCIES IN YOUNG CHILDREN WITH HEARING LOSS. THE GOAL IS TO MAINSTREAM THESE STUDENTS IN THE LEAST RESTRICTIVE ENVIRONMENT AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE WHILE HELPING THEM REACH THEIR FULLEST POTENTIAL.JWPOSD IS ALSO RECOGNIZED AS A NATIONAL CENTER OF EXCELLENCE FOR TRAINING TEACHERS, SPEECH PATHOLOGISTS AND AUDIOLOGISTS IN USING ADVANCED HEARING TECHNOLOGY (COCHLEAR IMPLANTS) WITH VERY YOUNG DEAF CHILDREN IN ORDER TO DEVELOP LISTENING AND SPOKEN LANGUAGE SKILLS. THE COALITION WAS MADE UP OF FIVE OPTION SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT CALIFORNIA. OPTION SCHOOLS ARE 501(C)(3) ORGANIZATIONS WHICH EDUCATE DEAF CHILDREN USING LISTENING AND SPOKEN LANGUAGE. THE CALIFORNIA COALITION OF OPTION SCHOOLS SPONSORED AB2072. THE COALITION PAID $3,333 PER MONTH TO LOBBYING FIRMS WHO REPRESENTED THE COALITION ON THIS ISSUE. THE COALITION WAS REPRESENTED BY THE SENATORS LAW FIRM (4695 MACARTHER CT, STE. 370, NEWPORT BEACH, CA 92660, 877-512-1746). THE TOTAL AMOUNT PAID WAS $19,998 TO THE SENATORS LAW FIRM. THE ORGANIZATION'S TOTAL CONTRIBUTION WAS $7,992. THIS MONEY WAS SPENT ON DIRECT LOBBYING TO INFLUENCE THE CALIFORNIA LEGISLATIVE BODY. THE OTHER $12,006 WAS BILLED OUT TO THE THREE ADDITIONAL OPTION SCHOOLS-ORALINGUA SCHOOL FOR THE HEARING IMPAIRED, JOHN TRACY CLINIC AND ECHO HORIZON SCHOOL.
