IRS990ScheduleC/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0DURING THE TAX YEAR, IN ORDER TO SUPPORT CHARITABLE MISSION, OUR STAFF ENGAGED IN AN INSUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF LOBBYING ACTIVITIES. WE WORKED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ALLIED ORGANIZATIONS TO INFLUENCE LEGISLATION ON ISSUES RANGING FROM ENERGY, WATER, FOOD, REDUCING WASTE, CLIMATE CHANGE, SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT, AND PUBLIC TRANSIT. LOBBYING COMPRISED ONLY A VERY SMALL PART OF OUR STAFF TIME AND EXPENSES, APPROXIMATELY $1,672 FOR THE YEAR. OUR STAFF USED A VARIETY OF ADVOCACY AND LOBBYING METHODS TO PROMOTE OUR POLICY AGENDA. THESE METHODS INCLUDED PUBLIC INFORMATION EVENTS AND COLLABORATIVE WORK WITH LOBBYING CAMPAIGNS ORGANIZED BY OTHERS AND SIGNING ON TO LETTERS TO GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS OR LEGISLATORS DRAFTED BY OTHER ORGANIZATIONS ON A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES. OUR STAFF ALSO MET WITH, CALLED, EMAILED, AND USED SOCIAL MEDIA TO COMMUNICATE WITH GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS OR LEGISLATORS ABOUT SPECIFIC LEGISLATION. WE KEPT OUR SUPPORTERS, DONORS AND THE PUBLIC APPRISED OF PENDING LEGISLATION BY SENDING LETTERS AND EMAILS, POSTING TO OUR BLOG, DRAFTING WHITE PAPERS AND OTHER PUBLICATIONS, HOSTING BOOTHS AT FARMERS. MARKETS, AND SECURING COVERAGE OF LEGISLATION IN LOCAL MEDIA COVERAGE.
