“Other program services include the following: deschutes county emeregency food/shelter (includes grants of 63,700) - united way of deschutes county was contracted by the grants department of the local government of deschutes county to convene and staff a local volunteer board to assess the emergency food and shelter needs and programs in deschutes county and determine awards. United way of deschutes county then distributes the available local county funds to local emergency service programs. Taxaide (includes grants of 7,490) beginning in 2014-15, united way of deschutes county formed a partnership with cash oregon to merge vita (the volunteer income tax assistance program) with the aarp foundation-sponsored taxaide program. This consolidation provides a single, unified volunter tax preparation service throughout central oregon, helping low to moderate income individuals and families file their income taxes for free and receive tax credits for which they are eligible, including the earned income credit, the child tax credit, and the education credit. Sixty-two trained volunteers and staff filed 3,739 income tax returns, returning over 3.4 million in refunds back into the community, with an average refund of over 1,390. Community building services (includes expenses of 13,340) - united way of deschutes county staff participates in a number of community building collaborations and initiatives, including the work of the homeless leadership coalition, central oregon health council, volunteer connect, better together, red cross-prepare redmond, nonprofit association of oregon advisory committee, osu cascades & central oregon community college student internships, among others. Days of caring is a 2-day event that connects volunteers to various local non-profit agencies to accomplish various maintenance and service tasks for those agencies. This program was postponed to the 2015-2016 fiscal year. Fund distribution services includes expenses of 18,790 and response grants of 5,300. In addition, other program grants of 800 are included.”
