Our primary exempt purpose is educational We use the management of diverse regenerative demonstration farms to provide hands-on experience for the public to engage with their food systems and immersive training for aspiring land stewards We also use the farms as experimental sites to further develop ecological farm systems for our bioregion that sequester carbon support biodiversity rehydrate landscapes and otherwise help adapt to and mitigate climate change
| Description | Grants | Expenses |
|---|---|---|
| Our second focus is providing immersive training for aspiring land stewards This year we hosted two paid apprenticeships with a goal that both apprentices would be comfortable managing the farm systems in their entirety upon conclusion of the program Both apprentices are going on to expandmanage their own farm endeavors next year which we consider a success The cost reflected is what we paid apprentices plus the cost of an agroecology course we funded for them although their work also enabled us to hit the other program objectives | - | $23,500 |
| Our first purpose is to provide hands-on education to the public on regenerative agriculture We accomplished this by hosting a total of 36 workshopsvolunteer days each attended by between 8 and 20 participants Participants participated in diverse activities related to the running of the farm most Sundays for 3-hour blocks and we shared all farm foods with volunteers in the form of raw farm product and also shared cooked dinners We also expanded our food production 3x in terms of calories produced which helps us feed more people and provide more diverse and abundant educational offerings Aside from regular weekly workshopsvolunteer days we also hosted two public events the Boulder Permaculture Design Course and three private tours The main of expense of this program is running the farms so that people can participate in them - this also serves the ecological stewardshipresearch component so we have split the costs of farm materials between these two | - | $14,490 |
| Our third key service is the continual development research and stewardship of farm systems appropriate to our bioregion that work to restore land and mitigate climate change by sequestering carbon supporting biodiversity and rehydrating landscapes This year in addition to expanding our land stewardship from 15 to 315 acres we began a citizen science research program to quantify and track our land improvements including tracking 7 metrics of soil health and insect biodiversity monitoring We have split the program expense of running the farm systems between this objective and the first as running the farm serves both programs | - | $14,490 |
