“Squires empowering young dads is an organization created to address the needs of young fathers. Navigating fatherhood at any age is a callenge, when you add adolescence, it only compounds the situation. Understanding the complexities of being a young father, squires empowering young dads provides the education and support a young dad needs as he navigates fatherhood and discovers what it means to be a parent. The mission of squires empowering dads is to empower young fathers with the knowledge and support to provide emotional and physical care for their children. By offering education, coping mechanisms, and support to these young men they can overcome the numerous obstacles they will face.”
“Our knight project is a six-month peer-development program in which young fathers complete achievements in financial literacy, parenting education, reading to their children, participation in squires events, and group sessions. Participants who complete the program are recognized at a knighting ceremony and invited to serve as peer mentors and leaders. Squires also hosts annual family day events to celebrate fatherhood and build community. Leadership and program participants attend the international fathers & families conference, where squires has historically presented workshops.”
“Squires provides year-round programs that equip adolescent and young fathers (ages 25 and under) in the portland metro area with education, mentoring, and resources that strengthen parenting skills, family stability, and personal development. Our annual young father workshop offers participants training on fatherhood, financial support, brain development, and community resources, including meals, childcare, and gift cards. We also host the greater portland young parent fair, connecting young parents with 2530 community partners through a resource fair, raffle incentives, and networking opportunities. Squires awards honor cords to pregnant and parenting youth who earn their ged or high-school diploma, recognizing educational achievement.”
“Monthly programs include squires knight, a safe space for fathers to build community and access resources; knight project meetings, covering topics such as literacy, chivalry, adversity, and fatherhood values; and squires lunch, where we visit multiple schools each week to provide meals, mentoring, supplies, and fatherhood support. Additionally, squires provides ongoing general mentoring throughout the portland metro area, offering individualized support and essential resources to young fathers and their families.”
