Form 990, Page 2, Line 1 Mission Statement

Scrap is an arts, environment and education nonprofit with a mission to inspire creative reuse and sustainable environmental behavior by providing educational programs and affordable materials to the community. We diverted 77 tons of material from the waste stream by collecting clean and usable creative materials at our retail locations and sell them at a low cost to teachers, crafters, artisans, families and makers. Our educational program teaches skills in waste reduction, reuse techniques and environmental stewardship to grades pre-k through 12, and adults. Early in scrap's history, the organization was approached to serve as a fiscal sponsor for programs replicating, the portland, or-based, scrap model in other states. In 2014, the scrap board of directors approved a national strategic expansion plan that endeavored to scale scrap-branded affiliate organizations across the united states. By providing fiscal sponsorship, coupled with training, technical assistance, and adapting programs elements to new locations. In 2020, the scrap board of directors decided to end fiscal sponsorship opportunities and transition to consulting and technical services provided by the national administrative team. Our goal is to facilitate successful creative reuse projects in communities across the nation. Through this process, we will demonstrate national leadership by empowering communities to capture the environmental, economic, and social benefits associated with building and managing creative reuse projects.

Form 990, Part III, Line 3

Board alleviated fiscal sponsorship and implemented consulting and technical services. Some education and retail programs were transitioned to online, digital, and virtual formats.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0SCRAP IS AN ARTS, ENVIRONMENT AND EDUCATION NONPROFIT WITH A MISSION TO INSPIRE CREATIVE REUSE AND SUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENTAL BEHAVIOR BY PROVIDING EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND AFFORDABLE MATERIALS TO THE COMMUNITY.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt1BOARD ALLEVIATED FISCAL SPONSORSHIP AND IMPLEMENTED CONSULTING AND TECHNICAL SERVICES. SOME EDUCATION AND RETAIL PROGRAMS WERE TRANSITIONED TO ONLINE, DIGITAL, AND VIRTUAL FORMATS.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt2NO SUCH COMMITTEE EXISTS.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt3A DRAFT OF THE FORM 990 WILL BE REVIEWED BY THE BOARD PRESIDENT AND TREASURER PRIOR TO FILING. IT WILL BE PROVIDED TO ALL OTHER BOARD MEMBERS AFTER FILING.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt4BOARD REVIEWS POTENTIAL CONFLICT OF INTEREST ISSUES ON AN ONGOING BASIS.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt5DURING THE FISCAL YEAR, A REORGANIZATION CHANGED MANAGEMENT FROM AN EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TO A TEAM OF 3 DIRECTORS - FINANCE, EDUCATION, AND OPERATIONS. THE BOARD APPROVED SALARIES FOR ALL 3 DIRECTORS AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO EACH YEAR DURING THE BUDGET PROCESS.
