Additional Explanations

FORM 990, PART XII, LINE 2C:

The audit committee selects and oversees an independent certified public accountant who conducts the audit. There was no change to the selection process this year.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The organization is exempt from federal and state income taxes under internal revenue code section 501(c)(3) and california revenue and taxation code, section 23701d. Accordingly, it has not provided for income taxes in these financial statements. Each year, management considers whether any material tax position the organization has taken is more likely than not to be sustained upon examination by the applicable taxing authority. Management believes that any positions the organization has taken are supported by substantial authority and, hence, do not need to be measured or disclosed in these financial statements. Tax returns for years subsequent to december 31, 2011 are subject to examination by federal and state tax authorities.

IRS990/Desc0LEADERSHIP PROGRAM AND ORGANIZATIONAL CONTRACTS: COMPASSPOINT EQUIPS PEOPLE WITH THE SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SUPPORT TO POWERFULLY ENGAGE IN THE PROCESS OF LEADERSHIP. WE DO THIS THROUGH OUR COHORT LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS AND THROUGH CONSULTING ENGAGEMENTS THAT ARE CO-DESIGNING WITH OUR CLIENTS, IN THE AREAS OF STRATEGY, SUSTAINABILITY, INTERNAL LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT, AND GOVERNANCE.IN 2015, COMPASSPOINT RAN NINE COHORT LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS INCLUDING THE NEXT GENERATION LEADERS OF COLOR PROGRAM, STRONG FIELD PROJECT LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM AND THE FUNDRAISING ACADEMY FOR COMMUNITIES OF COLOR. THESE PROGRAMS RANGE IN LENGTH FROM 3 MONTHS TO MULTIPLE YEARS, DEPENDING ON THE PROJECT. THEY ALL COMBINE A SET OF CORE METHODOLOGIES, INCLUDING TEACHING, PEER LEARNING, COACHING, AND PHYSICAL PRACTICE. WHEN WORKING WITH ORGANIZATIONS IN CONSULTING ENGAGEMENTS, WE WORK WITH ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERS TO DETERMINE THE REAL ISSUES AT HAND AND THEN TO DESIGN PROJECTS THAT RESULT IN ACTIONABLE CHANGE. THAT CHANGE COULD BE A NEW ARTICULATION OF AN ORGANIZATION'S PURPOSE AND CORE STRATEGIES. IT COULD BE A NEW APPROACH TO DEVELOPING LEADERSHIP ACROSS AN ORGANIZATION'S STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS OR IT COULD BE AN ORGANIZATION'S FIRST-EVER GOVERNANCE FRAMEWORK TO GUIDE THE COMPOSITION AND THE WORK OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS. COMPASSPOINT LEAD 98 CONSULTING ENGAGEMENTS IN 2015.
