Research and professional education:announced 25 grant awards to directly fund cutting-edge research: five one-year discovery grants; one two-year translational grants (year 1); six two-year translational grants (year 2) and 13 one-year research fellowships--totaling more than $1.46 million.saw success from previous years' grants as recipients published ground-breaking results of foundation-funded research and earned grants from the national institutes of health to continue their studies.surpassed a total 2,500 dna samples collected for the national psoriasis victor henschel biobank, the primary source of genetic material for psoriatic disease researchers.published psoriasis forum, a peer-reviewed medical journal, to provide approximately 6,000 rheumatologists, dermatologists and other medical professionals with the latest research and treatment information.hosted a conference to bring leading psoriasis researchers and clinicians together to share their knowledge with more than 100 dermatology residents.

Activity 3

Advocacy and government relations:since 2010, approximately 547,875 people with psoriatic disease received better insuance coverage and access to care as a direct result of npf advocacy efforts.brought nearly 30 patient advocates, top researchers and npf experts to washington d.c. To meet with 50 congressional offices from 13 states to urge continued federal support of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis research and the implementation of the first ever psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis public health agenda (released by the centers for disease control and prevention in february 2013). Additionally, the scientist participants met with 12 leaders from five different institutes of the national institutes of heath (nih) in bethesda, md to discuss advancing psoriatic disease research.national psoriasis foundation and the american heart association hosted a congressional briefing with more than 30 congressional staff to highlight the elevated risk of other chronic and serious health conditions for people living with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. The director of the national institute of arthritis and musculoskeletal and skin diseases (niams) keynoted the briefing and shared the latest in psoriatic disease research from the national institutes of health.the npf's network of more thank 80,000 advocates worked to shape laws and policies that will positively impact people living with psoriatic diseases, npf advocates worked to increase funding for research, improve access to care and new treatments and reduce out-of-pocket medical expenses.
