IRS990/Desc0Transforming Public Safety in Baltimore: In 2022 through 2024 OrganizingBlack, alongside its coalition partners, successfully advocated and wonstatewide policy that would transfer governance of the Baltimore policedepartment from the state of Maryland to the city of Baltimore. Organizing Black was able to influence individuals who served on the city commission that studied this issue and made final recommendations to the city and state governing bodies. One of the members of the commission was a staff member of organizing black. Voices Towards an Equitable Baltimore City Educational System: Organizing Black successfully lobbied to pass legislation that created a state commission on elected school boards and recommend a elected school board model for Baltimore City. Currently Baltimore city has two inaugural elected school board members who was elected to their respective offices in 2022. Organizing Black leaders were apart of the initial advocacy that led to Baltimore citys current hybrid school board. Ella Baker Freedom Fellowship: Organizing Black conducted its 3rd and largest community organizing training institute which trained and graduated 15 fellows from historically disadvantaged identities. Two-thirds of our fellows were able to get a job in the field of community organizing as a result of the skills and experienced they gained through OBs fellowship program.
