Mission
Operate a Museum
The Argus Museum has been formed to receive historical collections including artifacts manuscripts printed materials and oral histories related to the Argus Camera Company of Ann Arbor, Michigan, which operated from 1936 to 1969. The company manufactured world-renowned cameras and related optical equipment that were easy to use innovative and affordable. The museum will ensure that the Argus story including the accomplishments of its workers is documented and preserved according to best practice in collections stewardship. Additionally the museum will share the significance of the the company products work and legacy with a broad audience through conferences web exhibits and access to the historical assets of the museum. Also the museum will discuss the importance of film photography and will offer seminars and hands-on workshops for students and adults.

We were joined by about 25 people from across the United States and a few outside the country. This was a FREE conference so that we could share our focus and activities, and get camera historians excited about our new institution. Our not for profit status was received in mid December. Our financial situation had to be untangled as we were once part of a larger organization, Washtenaw County Historical Society. Until that not for profit status was reached that umbrella organization would not discuss what finances that they may have held were due to us. However, before we filled out this form, we had to understand the separation between the organizations and develop our own accounting system. All of this has taken a great deal of time. We are now, financially, free and clear from our old organization. We now understand what funds were ours and which were theirs, and what monies we could truly claim under the Argus Museum banner. This all made it possible to fill our this 990EZ form accurately. We wholly understand our Duty of Care is profound. Please note that Argus Museum has very little money, under $10,000. We ask, most humbly, if you could waive your fees for our late submission of our first 990EZ. We now feel confident our numbers are accurate, that our finances have been carefully untangled from our former organization, and that we can move on submitting these forms with confidence and on time now and in the future. We appreciate your consideration of this request. |
