“Hug maui - a comprehensive 90-day online healing journey with free services offered to the victims of the lahaina fire, maui residents, and those who love maui worldwide by providing a safe, simple space to receive hawaiian music & chants with translations, a daily meditation, a daily feeling tone and video of maui, hours of lessons of the tao, positive affirmations, and a photo diary of hugs and sweet things like puppy and kitty photos, good uplifting stories of survival, and much more. We served hundreds of people worldwide based on a free site that garnered nearly 8,000 in mostly small voluntary donations from hundreds of donors which then served hundreds more people as we partnered with maui strong fund and donated 90% of those proceeds to them to help fire victims.”

“Save the wetlands hui supports a specific area called the la'ie wetlands corridor. This area needs to be protected from developers and building as the la'ie wetlands are the last natural waterway in south maui and is vital to maui's sustainability. The wetlands hui has been doing restoration and scientific measuring of water quality and other elements since 2019. The objectives are to acquire lands that are most at risk of being developed or destroyed to help preserve the cultural and natural resource that it is and protect the wildlife habitat within. This work also helps mitigate the flooding and other negative climate change related issues that are assisted by the natural existence and life cycle system work of the wetlands when they are cared for and healthy. This project is worked on year-round with a dedicated team of about 7-10 key individuals who have been doing multiple functions including environmental scientific work to wetland restorations, writing grants, administrating funds and providing reporting on a regular basis, managing the projects, designing and providing digital marketing, and event and volunteer coordinating, designing and implementing more efficient methods of caring for the waterways and much more. Volunteers in batches of 50 per month often fill the wetlands as many hands make for lighter work. Garbage and green waste debris is constantly being removed. The regenerative work onsite stems and reaches to everyone from seed gatherers and greenhouse specialists to cultural advisors who offer the deep connection to the land and how it benefits our local people, to lab workers who measure the hydrology and elements within the soils. An eroded fishpond is located right off the shore and needs restoration and care to recreate itself as a fishery and another food source for the island. The project is a multi-phased, multi-year on-going project of love of the water and lifecycle within a wetland system. The website hosts over a 1000 members and followers and we host, as well as attend, multiple events per month doing outreach, education and hands-on planting of native species while removing the invasives.”
