Activity 2

Healthy living: the anchorage community ymca is a leading voice on health and well-being. We bring families closer together, encourage good health, and foster connections through fitness, sports, fun and shared interests. As a result, over 7,000 people in our community are receiving the support, guidance, and resources they need to achieve greater health in spirit, mind and body. This is particularly important as our nation struggles with an obesity crisis, families struggle with work/life balance, and individuals search for personal fulfillment. Our programs are accessible, affordable, and open to all faiths, backgrounds, abilities and income levels. Over 10,000 people served in 2011. We provided over $200,000 in financial assistance to people who would have faced economic barriers to participate. We provided over $400,000 in membership subsidy for families, military families, senior citizens, youth serving organizations and organizations serving those with special needs or chronic diseases such as diabetes.

Activity 3

Social responsibility: the anchorage community ymca believes in giving back and supporting our neighbors. We have been listening and responding to our community's most critical social needs for more than 40 years. Ymca programs such as youth basketball and youth soccer are examples of how we deliver training for adult volunteers and support and empower them to lead, inspire and develop young people in our community. In 2011 we mobilized 610 volunteers who in turn contributed over 22,000 hours of volunteer service at a cost equivalent value of $483,000.
