Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Chelan-douglas community action council (cdcac), established in 1965, is a result of president lyndon b. Johnston's war on poverty and from the advocacy of dr. Martin luther king, jr. We believe all people should be treated with dignity and respect and recognize that social constructs such as race, gender and poverty continue to create barriers that must be addressed. We believe that with hope and equitable access to adequate resources and opportunities, everyone can reach their fullest potential, and we are committed to achieving that vision. We pledge ourselves to creating an environment that pursues innovation and excellence through multi-sector partnerships and collaboration. Our mission is to end poverty by helping people and changing lives, and we will serve to that end until all people of north central washington flourish. In 2020, cdcac had a substantial increase in funding due to the global covid-19 pandemic. Multiple federal emergency response and recovery funding acts result

The mission of chelan-douglas community action council is to end poverty by helping people and changing lives.

FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

Buildings are more stable and better able to withstand bad weather when they have a strong foundation. The same can be said for human well-being. People and communities thrive when they have the social relationships, resources, and opportunities that build strong well-being. When well-being is unstable, social stresses like graduating from school, a medical emergency, or having an aging parent who needs care can be catastrophic. While people with a healthy support system can weather the storm, people without enough support often struggle. Cdcac provides services and connects people to resources to empower them to better weather the storm.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4C

Programs include food assistance, delivering over 1.5 million pounds of food to ten food pantries and five meal sites supporting over 7,000 low income residents with healthy, nutritional foods; adult literacy education to 97 residents annually; supported by 40 volunteers; and operating the regional americorps programs supporting over 500 volunteers who provide help to children, adults and seniors; tax preparation services for 800 families/individuals; and financial education to individuals to increase money management skills and asset building.
