Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Chelan-douglas community action council (cdcac), established in 1965, is a result of president lyndon b. Johnston's war on poverty and from the advocacy of dr. Martin luther king, jr. We believe all people should be treated with dignity and respect and recognize that social constructs such as race, gender and poverty continue to create barriers that must be addressed. We believe that with hope and equitable access to adequate resources and opportunities, everyone can reach their fullest potential, and we are committed to achieving that vision. We pledge ourselves to creating an environment that pursues innovation and excellence through multi-sector partnerships and collaboration. Our mission is to end poverty by helping people and changing lives, and we will serve to that end until all people of north central washington flourish. In 2020, cdcac had a substantial increase in funding due to the global covid-19 pandemic. Multiple federal emergency response and recovery funding acts result

We at chelan douglas community action council(cdcac) are firm in our commitment to promoting personal independence and providing for all in our community. By treating people with respect, identifying community needs, and advocating creative solutions, cdcac is having a greater impact on chelan and douglas counties than ever before. The board, managment and staff at cdcac takes its mission very seriously, and are constantly looking for ways to improve.

Additional Explanations

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4B

Weatherization and energy assistance cdcac provides complete home energy improvement renovations to qualified low income households. Services include insulation, heating system (repair/replacement), plumbing and electrical(upgrade/replacement), replace broken windows and exterior doors, and health and safety improvements(new flooring, handrails, mold removal). In 2024, 145 people received weatherization and health and safety improvements to their home. Cdcac provided utility assistance to qualified low-income households, with payments provided directly to the utility provider with one-time annual assitance up to 1,000. In 2024, 3,371 people benefitted from the assistance.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4C

Other program services since its founding nearly 60 years ago, the purpose of cdcac has remained remarkably unchanged: help residents of chelan and douglas counties access resources that will alleviate conditions of poverty and empower themselves into safer and healthier lifestyles and greater self-sufficiency. In 2024, cdcac assisted 30,932 people-addressing multiple community needs. Cdcac identifies the root causes of poverty, the needs of the economically and socially disadvantaged in the region, and coordinates with other social service organizations; education, health and government agencies; and businesses to provide resources that fill those needs. As part of that work, cdcac seeks to educate the entire community about the challenges faced by low-income households and the root caused of poverty in the community. People and communities thrive when they have the resources, social relationships, and opportunities that build strong well-being. When well- being is unstable, social stresses like graduating from school or having an aging parent who needs care can be catastrophic. While people with sufficient support can weather the storm, people without enough support may struggle to do so.
