IRS990/Desc0NUS College in Silicon Valley: The NUS College in Silicon Valley(NCSV) aims to cultivate dynamic and resourceful entrepreneurs by immersing a selected group of NUS students in the entrepreneurial and academic environment in Silicon Valley. Students will return with a paradigm shift in mindset, motivated to promote the entrepreneurial spirit among NUS students and create an entrepreneurial hub in Singapore. This program is designed for students to spend one year as interns in technology-based startups. At the same time, students will, concurrently, attend entrepreneurship and discipline-based courses conducted by Stanford University, other institutions in Silicon Valley as well as courses provided by NUS through the Internet.NUS has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Stanford Centre for Professional Development (SCPD) to develop collaboration between the 2 Institutions. As part of this agreement, NCSV students will take entrepreneurship courses together with the regular Stanford students. Credits gained from these courses will be transferred to NUS for partial fulfillment of NUS degree requirements. The agreement also provides for joint course development and research collaboration in entrepreneurship. The program leads to a Bachelor (Technopreneurship Minor) or a Bachelor (Hons with Technopreneurship Minor) degree. There are 2 intakes per year. All full time NUS undergraduates preferably in their 4th or 5th semesters who have obtained 80 Modular Credits (MCs) by January or July are eligible to apply. They will spend 12 months in Silicon Valley before returning to NUS to complete the rest of their Bachelor degree requirements. The program is intended to be academically and financially neutral for the students. The NCSV program started with 14 students in January 2002. At a steady state, 50 students will take part in the program per year. These students would be selected among the top students in all faculties. Most of the companies in Silicon Valley, currently offering internships to NUS students, are looking for Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Computing, Pharmacy, Biotechnology and Business students.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0NUS College in Bio Valley:The National University of Singapore (NUS) initiative to cultivate leading entrepreneurs by immersing a highly selected group of NUS students in startup dynamics and distinguish academic environment has seen the establishment of NUS College in Silicon Valley (NCSV) in 2001. In the same spirit, the NUS College in Bio Valley (NCBV) has been established in 2002, making it the 2nd NUS overseas college. The NCBV program was designed to build on the successes of the NCSV program, with adaptations to take advantage of the unique opportunities within central Philadelphia, especially in biotech and biomedical areas. NUS students spent 12 months as interns in high tech startups, and at the same time, attended entrepreneurship and discipline-based courses conducted in University of Pennsylvania (UPenn). Students returned with a paradigm shift in mindset, motivated to promote the entrepreneurial spirit among NUS students and create an entrepreneurial hub in Singapore.NUS signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with UPenn on 24 June 2002 to develop an institutional collaboration between the two universities. Through UPenn's Technology and Entrepreneurship Immersion Program (TEIP), NUS students were provided with a structured academic learning environment to complement their practical experiences. They attended courses with the regular students at UPenn's School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) and Wharton's School of Business. Credits obtained from these courses will be transferred to NUS to fulfill part of the degree requirements. The program led to a Bachelor (Technopreneurship Minor) or a Bachelor (Hons with Technopreneurship Minor) degree. There were 2 intakes per year. All full time NUS undergraduates preferably in their 4th or 5th semesters who have obtained 80 Modular Credits (MCs) by January or July were eligible to apply. They spent 12 months in Bio Valley before returning to NUS to complete the rest of their Bachelor degree requirements. The program was intended to be academically and financially neutral for the students. The NCBV program started with 14 students in January 2003. At a steady state, 50 students participated in the program each year. These students were selected from among the top NUS students from all faculties. Most of the companies in Bio Valley which provided internship opportunities to NUS students, were interested in students specializing in Life Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Pharmacy, Engineering, Computing and Business students. In this fiscal year, the program was moved to New York City.
