| IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc | 0 | INTEGRATIVE THERAPY: AT THE END OF LIFE, SYMPTOMS OF PAIN AND SUFFERING CAN BECOME MORE PRONOUNCED. FOR THESE PATIENTS, INTEGRATIVE THERAPIES LIKE MUSIC AND MASSAGE, CAN HELP MANAGE THEIR PAIN, ANXIETY, NAUSEA, DEPRESSION, AS WELL AS IMPROVE THEIR SLEEP AND RESTFULNESS. INTEGRATIVE THERAPIES ARE FUNDED SOLELY THROUGH DONOR FUNDS. THE INTEGRATIVE THERAPY OFFERINGS WERE DISRUPTED FOR A FEW MONTHS DURING THE BEGINNING OF THE PANDEMIC. PROTECTIVE PROTOCOLS AND EQUIPMENT ALLOWED FOR MASSAGE AND MUSIC THERAPY TO SAFELY RESTART SHORTLY THEREAFTER, AND REMAIN ACTIVE THROUGH THE END OF 2020. |

| IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc | 0 | ONE SIZE DOESN'T ALWAYS FIT ALL, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO QUALITY OF LIFE. SOMETIMES, A PATIENT NEEDS SOMETHING THAT IS OUTSIDE OF WHAT IS CONSIDERED "ROUTINE" CARE BY MEDICARE AND MOST INSURANCE COMPANIES. SOMETIMES THOSE NEEDS ARE SIMPLE, LIKE A SECOND SET OF SHEETS, OR A BLENDER FOR A PATIENT WHO CAN ONLY TAKE LIQUIDS. AND SOMETIMES, THESE NEEDS CAN BE MUCH MORE CHALLENGING, LIKE THE PALLIATIVE RADIATION THERAPY THAT COULD HELP A BED-BOUND PATIENT WALK IN HER GARDEN AGAIN. THESE NEEDS ARE CALLED ATYPICAL TREATMENTS AND THEY ARE ESSENTIAL TO A PATIENT'S COMFORT AND QUALITY OF LIFE. HOSPICE OF THE NORTHWEST FOUNDATION WAS ABLE TO INCREASE THIS FUNDING AS NEEDED, APPROXIMATELY 10%, DURING THE PANDEMIC, ENSURING THAT COMFORT AND QUALITY OF LIFE WERE MAINTAINED AS BEST AS POSSIBLE. |

| IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc | 0 | UNCOMPENSATED CARE: BASIC HOSPICE SERVICES ARE SUPPORTED FINANCIALLY BY MOST HEALTH INSURANCE POLICIES AND MEDICARE. HOWEVER, THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITY WHO DO NOT HAVE INSURANCE OR ARE UNDERINSURED WITH LIMITED COVERAGE OR HIGH DEDUCTIBLE. IN THESE SITUATIONS, FINANCIAL SUPPORT IS NECESSARY SO THEY TOO CAN EXPERIENCE A PEACEFUL DEATH WITH THEIR FAMILY AND FRIENDS BY THEIR SIDE. THE NEED FOR UNCOMPENSATED CARE INCREASED DURING THE PANDEMIC. HNWF WAS ABLE TO EXPEND APPROXIMATELY 33% MORE TO MEET THESE NEEDS DURING 2020. THE PHILOSOPHY OF THE HNW FOUNDATION IS THAT EVERY PERSON SHOULD HAVE ACCESS TO QUALITY CARE AT THE END OF LIFE AND TO LIVE THEIR FINAL DAYS WITH DIGNITY AND IN COMFORT. NO ONE SHOULD DIE ALONE OR IN PAIN. |
| IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc | 1 | VOLUNTEER SERVICES: HOSPICE VOLUNTEERS PROVIDE COMPANIONSHIP, FRIENDSHIP, AND VIGIL TO DYING PEOPLE. DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, VOLUNTEER SERVICES WERE FORCED TO SHARPLY SCALE BACK FOR HEALTH AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS, WHICH DECREASED THEIR EXPENSES. WEEKLY TUCK-IN PHONE CALLS, LIBRARY MAINTENANCE, LIMITED BEDSIDE VIGIL (WITH FULL-PPE), AND PET PEACE OF MIND WERE SOME OF THE WAYS THAT THE VOLUNTEERS WERE ABLE TO SUPPORT THOSE WITH LIFE-LIMITING CONDITIONS IN 2020. |
| IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc | 2 | BEREAVEMENT: GRIEF COUNSELING IS AVAILABLE TO ANYONE IN OUR COMMUNITY COPING WITH LOSS, REGARDLESS OF THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITH A HOSPICE PATIENT, AT NO COST TO THEM. HOSPICE OF THE NORTHWEST OFFERS BEREAVEMENT CARE, COUNSELING, SUPPORT GROUPS, AN EIGHT-WEEK GRIEF RECOVERY PROGRAM, MAILINGS, AND A RESOURCE LIBRARY. DURING 2020, THE NEED FOR SOLACE AND GRIEF SUPPORT GREW FOR ALL PROGRAM OFFERINGS. MOVING FROM IN-PERSON TO ONLINE ENABLED MORE COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO PARTICIPATE AND RECEIVE THE HELP THEY NEEDED. |
| IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc | 3 | STAFF EDUCATION DURING 2020 WAS MODIFIED TO ONLINE FORMATS. HOSPICE OF THE NORTHWEST AND HOSPICE OF THE NORTHWEST FOUNDATION SUSPENDED IN-PERSON MEETINGS, INCLUDING STAFF EDUCATION, STARTING IN MARCH 2020. THEREFORE, THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT DECREASE IN EDUCATION EXPENSES. |
| IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc | 4 | PATIENT ASSISTANCE: OFTEN FAMILIES AND PATIENTS HAVE COSTS THAT ARE NOT COVERED BY OTHER FUNDING STREAMS, INCLUDING CREMATIONS COSTS OF TRANSPORTATION. THESE COSTS ARE 100% DONOR FUNDED. THE NEED FOR FINANCIALLY ASSISTING PATIENTS DIRECTLY SHARPLY INCREASED DURING 2020. HOSPICE OF THE NORTHWEST FOUNDATION WAS ABLE TO INCREASE FUNDING FOR THESE NEEDS BY APPROXIMATELY 37%. |
| IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc | 5 | COVID-19 EXPENSES: THANKS TO DONOR GENEROSITY, WE WERE ABLE TO MEET THE EMERGENCY EXPENSES THAT CAME WITH THE PANDEMIC. HNWF'S FIRST ACTION DURING THE PANDEMIC WAS TO IMMEDIATELY EXTEND $10,000 TO HNW FOR EMERGENCY NEEDS INCLUDING: PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT, CLEANING SUPPLIES, AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR PATIENTS AND STAFF FOR THINGS LIKE INCREASED LAUNDRY EXPENSES. |
| IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc | 6 | MEDICAL EQUIPMENT: THESE FUNDS WERE PRIMARILY USED TO PURCHASE A SECOND PORTABLE BLADDER SCANNER. THIS DEVICE IS EASILY USED, GIVES NEAR-IMMEDIATE RESULTS, AND IS NON-INVASIVE. WITHOUT THE BLADDER SCANNER, DIAGNOSTIC TESTS ARE TIME CONSUMING, UNCOMFORTABLE, AND CAN BE PHYSICALLY DISTRESSING FOR MANY PATIENTS. |
