Locally, we started in 2000 and have helped dozens of families through our repair work and through our financial and leadership development sessions. There are nearly 2 billion people around the world who live in slum housing and more than 100 million are homeless. Habitat helps by building or renovating simple, decent houses in partnership with those in need. Mission principles: demonstrate the love of jesus christ: we undertake our work to demonstrate the love and teachings of jesus, acting in all ways in accord with the belief that gods love and grace abound for all, and that we must be hands and feet of that love and grace in our world. We believe that, through faith, the miniscule can be multiplied to accomplish the magnificent, and that, in faith, respectful relationships can grow among all people. Focus on shelter: we have chosen, as our means of manifesting gods love, to create opportunities for all people to live in decent, durable shelter. We put faith into action by helping to build, renovate or preserve homes, and by partnering with others to accelerate and broaden access to affordable housing as a foundation for breaking the cycle of poverty. Advocate for affordable housing: in response to the prophet micahs call to do justice, to love mercy and to walk humbly with god, we promote decent, affordable housing for all, and we support the global communitys commitment to housing as a basic human right. We will advocate for just and fair housing policy to eliminate the constraints that contribute to poverty housing. And, in all of our work, we will seek to put shelter on hearts and minds in such powerful ways that poverty housing becomes socially, politically and religiously unacceptable. Promote dignity and hope: we believe that no one lives in dignity until everyone can live in dignity. We believe that every person has something to contribute and something to gain from creating communities in which all people have decent, affordable places to live. We believe that dignity and hope are best achieved through equitable, accountable partnerships. Support sustainable and transformational development. We view our work as successful when it transforms lives and promotes positive and lasting social, economic and spiritual change within a community; when it is based on mutual trust and fully shared accomplishment; and when it demonstrates responsible stewardship of all resources entrusted to us. Non-proselytizing policy: habitat for humanity international and its affiliated organizations will not proselytize. Nor will hfh work with entities or individuals who insist on proselytizing as part of their work with hfh. This means that hfh will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must adhere to or convert to a particular faith or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.”
“At cowlitz county habitat for humanity, we believe our volunteers are the heart of our organization. Each year volunteers and selected applicants participate in our new home and rehab/repair build sites (under trained and paid supervision), at our local corporate habitat office and at our habitat store. Cowlitz county habitat for humanity had approximately the following number of volunteers and volunteer hours during this reporting period (july 1, 2017 through june 30, 2018): office/construction/misc projects: 265 volunteers worked 3,711 hours habitat store: 140 voluteers worked 11,250 hours with the help of our volunteers, families can achieve the strength, stability, and independence they need to build a better life and community.”
“We are an actively engaged affiliate with the neighborhood revitalization efforts in cowlitz county. We have identified a specific neighborhood and we work with the community to enhance the existing revitalization plan and to engage the residents to improve their own lives and that of their neighborhood. We have recently been active in establishing and participating in a community-wide nrcc (neighborhood resource community council). This nrcc is made up of residents and a wealth of non-profit agencies and representatives of organizations for the purpose of communicating needs and finding solutions related to neighborhood renewal projects (currently in longview and kelso, wa). Nrcc will offer training, education, and leadership development opportunities. Nrcc will attempt to support neighborhood organizations in their efforts to secure funding for community building and other neighborhood support projects. A brush with kindness (abwk) is a growing program within the cowlitz county habitat for humanity offerings. It is a program that provides exterior home improvement projects to low income homeowners. Similar to our new home construction program, applicants must be willing to participate (via sweat equity) and meet the project qualifications and criteria. We currently undertake 12 - 15 abwk projects each year. This opportunity also allows us to engage youth.”
“DEOBLIGATED GRANT -1,778”
“Cowlitz habitat collects escrow payments from homeowners and uses the funds to pay property taxes and home insurance. Homeowners' escrow payments are deposited in a dedicated bank account used solely for that purpose. In the case of one duplex, cowlitz habitat also collects payments from the two homeowners for a hoa account which is used to pay expenses related to the duplex as a whole.”

MISSION STATEMENT: SEEKING TO PUT GODS LOVE INTO ACTION, HABITAT FOR HUMANITY BRINGS PEOPLE TOGETHER TO BUILD HOMES, COMMUNITIES AND HOPE. ABOUT HABITAT: WE ARE A NONPROFIT, ECUMENICAL CHRISTIAN MINISTRY THAT BUILDS WITH PEOPLE IN NEED REGARDLESS OF RACE OR RELIGION. WE WELCOME VOLUNTEERS AND SUPPORTERS FROM ALL BACKGROUNDS. WE ARE ONE OF THE 1,350 LOCAL AFFILIATES IN THE UNITED STATES AND MORE THAN 70 NATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS AROUND THE WORLD. TOGETHER, WE HAVE HELPED OVER 9.8 MILLION PEOPLE WORLDWIDE TO IMPROVE THEIR LIVING CONDITIONS SINCE THE HABITAT INTERNATIONAL FOUNDING IN 1976. THIS MEANS THAT HFH WILL NOT OFFER ASSISTANCE ON THE EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED CONDITION THAT PEOPLE MUST ADHERE TO OR CONVERT TO A PARTICULAR FAITH OR LISTEN AND RESPOND TO MESSAGING DESIGNED TO INDUCE CONVERSION TO A PARTICULAR FAITH. |
