Nami washington's mission is to improve the quality of life for all those affected by mental health conditions in washington state. We do this by providing a statewide unifying voice of adovcacy and coordinating the delivery of support, education, and research.

Types of Members. a) Individual members are individuals, relatives, and/or supporters of persons living with a mental illness, who accept the mission of NAMI Washington and pay dues as prescribed. b). Chartered local NAMI affiliate members are a group of five or more dues-paying members who are in good standing with the state organization and NAMI national.

1. Individual members: a. Shall be the voting members of local affiliates. b. Shall nominate and elect the Board of Directors and adopt and amend the bylaws of their respective local affiliates, c. May otherwise be voting members of their local affiliates, all as prescribed by the bylaws of their local affiliates, and d. Shall be the unit for purposes of determining the number of votes to be allocated to local affiliate members in their voting by proportional representation within NAMI Washington. A member may support and work within several affiliates but shall be a voting member of only one (1) affiliate. 2. Local affiliate members. Each local affiliate in good standing shall be entitled to cast, in any election or other vote on NAMI Washington matters, the number of votes determined by the following table: Number of Members in the Affiliate ninety (90) days prior to the date of the meeting at which votes are cast Number of votes 5 to 75 - 1 76 to 150 - 2 Over 150 - 3

IRS990/Desc0Support & Outreach - NAMI Washington's array of support and outreach efforts are focused on educating Washingtonians about mental illness, treatment, support services and recovery. In FY2015-16, NAMI Washington hosted the 12th annual NAMI Washington WALK where over 1300 people gathered in Kirkland, WA for the state's largest public event to celebrate recovery, advocate for a more robust mental health treatment and support system, and combat the stigma associated with mental illness. The annual state conference brought over 225 members and providers together for three days of educational workshops focused on all aspects of mental health treatment, recovery, and system operations.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0Education - NAMI Washington offers an array of peer education and training programs and services for individuals living with mental illness, family members, providers and the general public at no cost to participants seeking critical information and support not found elsewhere in the mental health and addiction system. These programs draw on the lived experience of mental health consumers and family members who have learned to live with their illnesses and have been extensively trained to help others. NAMI Washington held teacher and facilitator trainings for its core education and support group programs Connection Peer Support Group, Family Support Group, Family-to-Family class, Peer-to-Peer class, Basics class for Parents, Homefront class for caregivers of military and veterans, Ending the Silence school presentation program, Parents and Teachers as Allies educational staff in-service, and In 0ur Own Voice community presentation program. Staff and volunteers also fielded over 450 information and referral calls from individuals and families about treatment and support services in their local communities across Washington.

NAMI advocates continue to fight for policy changes and health care transformation that raises the bar on mental health treatment and support services which promote recovery and timely access to services and supports, reduce barriers to effective treatment, and preserve families and communities. NAMI grassroots advocates and volunteers are active with their state legislators, informing them of positive developments in the mental health system and advocating for Improvements that Will lead to more positive mental health and health care outcomes. They also advocate with local mental health authorities, county commissioners, city leaders, law enforcement and others in local communities.
