Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The foundation is organized to operate exclusively for charitable, scientific, or educational purposes within the meaning of section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. The foundation provides youth and young adults access to outstanding academic, athletic and health programs that improve their quality of life and improve their prospects for the future. To achieve this mission, the foundation supports the following: work of like-minded organizations by participating in charity fundraisers, arranging players' appearances, and providing financial support; health programs that increase awareness of the health concerns that affect youth; promotion of fitness and health awareness through construction of playgrounds and fitness centers that serve youth; and organizations that are seeking cures for childhood diseases.

Promote the healthy, social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development of youth by enhancing opportunities for participation in sports and fitness activities.

THE FOUNDATION MAKES THESE GRANTS AND CONTRIBUTIONS TO PACIFIC NORTHWEST CHARITIES QUALIFIED FOR TAX EXEMPTION UNDER IRC SECTION 501(C)(3) AND QUALIFIED AS PUBLIC CHARITIES UNDER IRC SECTIONS 509(A)(1) OR 509(A)(2). THE FOUNDATION SUPPORTS CHARITIES WHOSE PURPOSE AND PROGRAMS ARE CONSISTENT WITH THE PRIMARY EXEMPT PURPOSE OF THE FOUNDATION. THE FOUNDATION GENERATES FUNDS BY HOLDING SPECIAL EVENTS THAT CAPITALIZE ON THE FOUNDATION'S ASSOCIATION WITH THE SEAHAWKS, SEATTLE'S NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM. SINCE 2004, THE FOUNDATION HAS HELD "THE SPIRIT OF 12" EVENT, WHEREBY THE FOUNDATION COLLABORATES WITH LOCAL NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS TO RAISE MONEY AT SEAHAWKS HOME GAMES TO BENEFIT LOCAL CHARITIES. IN 2014 THE SPIRIT OF 12 EVENTS WERE HELD AT 12 HOME FOOTBALL GAMES: 2 PRESEASON, 8 REGULAR SEASON, AND 2 POST SEASON GAMES. IN CONJUNCTION WITH PARTICIPATING CHARITIES THE FOUNDATION RAISED OVER $260,000 FOR THE BENEFIT OF 5 LOCAL CHARITIES AND THE PEOPLE THEY SERVE.

THE FOUNDATION PROVIDES YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS ACCESS TO OUTSTANDING ACADEMIC, ATHLETIC AND HEALTH PROGRAMS THAT IMPROVE THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE AND IMPROVE THEIR PROSPECTS FOR THE FUTURE. HOMETOWN HUDDLE IS AN NFL-WIDE DAY OF SERVICE THAT PROVIDES NFL PLAYERS, COACHES, WIVES AND STAFF FROM THE SEAHAWKS TEAM THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN COMMUNITY SERVICE. STARTING IN 2008, THE FOCUS OF THE COMMUNITY SERVICE WAS CENTERED AROUND KEEPING CHILDREN ACTIVE AND PREVENTING CHILDHOOD OBESITY. PLAY 60 AND FITNESS ZONE ARE THE NFL'S YOUTH HEALTH AND FITNESS CAMPAIGNS, FOCUSED ON MAKING THE NEXT GENERATION OF KIDS THE MOST ACTIVE AND HEALTHY BY ENCOURAGING THEM TO BE ACTIVE FOR AT LEAST 60 MINUTES A DAY.
