Activity 2

Community and nonprofit leadership 2012 was a banner year of leadership for the orcas island community foundation. We launched the dental van in collaboration with seven nonprofits and faith based organizations, providing free dental care for over 170 island neighbors. When the beloved exchange burned down, oicf opened the phoenix fund to held rebuild the vital community resource. We continued to build community nonprofit capacity by offering both a board boot camp, focused on developing stronger non profit boards, and a financial workshop to improve financial reporting and literacy. Several other non profits were offered individual support to refine bylaws, work on compliance issues, recruit board members and strengthen governance in general.

Activity 3

Community and nonprofit services in 2012, oicf completed a review of investment options and, under the leadership of our investment committee and cornerstone advisors, developed a new investment strategy. The primary goals established by the committee were to increase donor and fund services, minimize fees, and maintain a steady performance. All funds were moved from the seattle foundation into a blended investment account at a brokerage house along with a series of brokered certificates of deposit. All of the primary goals have been met. In addition, oicf launched a new enterprise software program providing online access for fund holders.
