IRS990/Desc0CULTURAL ENRICHMENT: The Cultural Enrichment program is both school-based and summer programs for middle school and high school age girls* and gender expansive youth of color. The "school-based" program is a space for participants to learn about themselves, increase pride in their identity and furthermore learn how to navigate the world around them. The curriculum is delivered through group and individual sessions. In-school programming has resumed at Asa Mercer International Middle School, the Powerful Voices office and at various community-based locations. Powerful Choices: 54 middle school youth met weekly over eight weeks to explore their identities, build a community of support, and use arts and culture activities to express and celebrate their unique selves. Our most recent cohort was co-facilitated by a young adult healing justice fellow, a Powerful Voices staff member, and a youth healing justice who helped with developing the curriculum for the cohort and facilitation of the cohort. Black Muslimah Collective (BMC): 6 young people participated in a cohort for Black Muslim girls in the Seattle area to build community, relate to one another, and be authentically themselves. We are so honored to have had our youth intern (former BMC participant) lead this cohort and curate an amazing program curriculum to cultivate community among young Black Muslim girls & women. The Cultural Enrichment programs served 60 youth of color in 2022 (double last year's metrics) through trauma-informed, strengths-based healing and social justice programming, including one-on-one support, cohort programs, and self- and community-care resources.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0EMPLOYMENT: The Employment program offers both after school and summer programs for high school age girls* and gender expansive youth of color. Our after-school programs are experiential learning internships where participants increase their knowledge of social justice issues that impact them while building transferrable skills they can apply towards their career goals. Activistas: 11 young folks met weekly over 10 weeks. Group learning sessions included topics ranging from Grassroots Organizing 101 to Queer & Trans Liberation to Birth Work as Activism. We partnered with several community organizations and local artists to provide guest workshops and field trips. Activistas explored different forms of activism, learning, and practicing self and community care along the way with support from 5 Adult Allies and a former Activista who interned with us. PV Radio: 10 young folks worked together to create, produce, and host monthly social-justice podcasts. Podcast topics include Social + Healing Justice, Pop Culture, LGBTQ+, Self-Image and Healthy Relationships. Employment programs served 22 youth of color in 2022 (more than 5x last year's metrics).

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: Powerful Voices works within the community on issues that impact girls* and gender expansive of color to promote equity and make the world a more just place for everyone. Community Engagement efforts include hosting our annual Revolutionary Community Care Day where we provide self-care items and services to youth and their families, producing the annual Girlvolution Conference led by Activistas youth, providing training on Powerful Voices curriculum and practices, serving on coalitions, and partnering to provide outreach to girls of color detained in King County Juvenile Detention. Due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and limited staff capacity, we temporarily put our work with incarcerated youth on hold. Girlvolution & Revolutionary Community Care: We brought back our annual Girlvolution conference with young folks from our Activistas cohort. Girlvolution included healing justice elements throughout, such as a group healing session that supported six young folks in breathwork and mindfulness meditation, PV Comfort Kits (self-care toolkits) for youth, and a self-care resource station for youth and their families with basic needs and toiletries. The main portion of the conference was youth presenting on an intersectional social justice topic that impacts their mental health and wellbeing and that of their families and communities. Young folks worked over 10 weeks to research and create the presentations that they shared at Girlvolution. Presentation topics included BIPOC youth in foster care, youth incarceration, fast fashion, displacement and gentrification in South Seattle, race and education, Latinx communities and immigration, Black voter suppression, systemic racism, financial security, the anti-colonial revolution of South Asia, and more. Each presentation included a call to action and/or an invitation for the audience to raise their consciousness. Community Engagement programs and events distributed 185 self-care kits, served 9 youth through group healing sessions, worked with 15 volunteers including Adult Allies, and engaged 50 youth and adults at Girlvolution.
