Additional Explanations

FORM 990, PART XII, LINE 2C:

The selection of the auditor process and review of financial statements has not changed from last year.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The organization follows fasb asc topic 740, income taxes (topic 740). Topic 740 clarifies the accounting for uncertainty in income taxes. Management evaluated the organization's tax positions and concluded that the organization had taken no uncertain tax positions that require adjustments to the financial statements to comply with the provision of this guidance. Should that status be challenged in the future, the organization's tax returns for 2010 and through the current tax year are open for examination by the internal revenue service.

IRS990/Desc0SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN 1990, VISION HOUSE HAS HELPED MORE THAN 800 HOMELESS MEN, WOMEN, AND CHILDREN REBUILD THEIR LIVES. VISION HOUSE OWNS AND OPERATES FIVE TRANSITIONAL HOUSING FACILITIES AND A CHILD CARE CENTER THAT SERVE WASHINGTONS GREATER PUGET SOUND REGION LOCATED IN SHORELINE AND RENTON VICINITIES. THE FAMILY PROGRAM HAS A TOTAL OF 35 APARTMENTS FOR MOTHERS AND CHILDREN, AND THE MENS PROGRAM, LOCATED IN TWO SINGLE FAMILY HOMES, CAN HOUSE 9 MEN. RESIDENTS SIGN A LEASE AND PAY 30 PERCENT OF THEIR INCOME TOWARD RENT. IF THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY INCOME, THEN THEY DO NOT PAY ANY RENT. NO ONE IS TURNED AWAY BECAUSE THEY CANNOT PAY. HOWEVER, CASE MANAGERS WORK WITH THE RESIDENTS TO FIND AN INCOME SOURCE SO THEY CAN PAY SOME LEVEL OF RENT, WHICH IS PART OF THEIR FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT TRAINING FOR HANDLING LIFE AFTER VISION HOUSE. THE GOAL OF VISION HOUSE IS TO COORDINATE SUCCESSFUL RE-INTEGRATION OF RESIDENTS INTO THE COMMUNITY THROUGH A PROGRAM OF QUALITY HOUSING AND SUPPORT SERVICES SUCH AS: COUNSELING, CHILD CARE, FOOD, CLOTHING, AND REFERRALS FOR MEDICAL AND DENTAL CARE. RESIDENTS LIVE AT VISION HOUSE FOR UP TO TWO YEARS, DURING WHICH TIME THEY SET GOALS IN THE AREAS OF EDUCATION, EMPLOYMENT, FINANCES, PARENTING, HEALTH, AND OTHER AREAS IN ORDER TO ASSIST THEM IN ACHIEVING SELF-SUFFICIENCY. WEEKLY ONE-ON-ONE MEETINGS WITH A CASE MANAGER AND MONTHLY GROUP MEETINGS OFFER COUNSELING AND SUPPORT AND ALSO PROVIDE ACCOUNTABILITY IN HELPING RESIDENTS MAKE PROGRESS WITH THEIR GOALS. IN 2013, VISION HOUSE PROVIDED HOUSING AND SUPPORT SERVICES FOR A TOTAL OF 144 HOMELESS CHILDREN, WOMEN AND MEN. THE BREAKOUT IS AS FOLLOWS: 80 CHILDREN (FAMILY PROGRAM), 41 MOTHERS (FAMILY PROGRAM), 23 MEN (SUBSTANCE ABUSE RECOVERY PROGRAM). THE SUCCESS RATE INDICATES THE FAMILIES WHO LEFT VISION HOUSE TO PERMANENT HOUSING, A JOB AND A BETTER WAY OF LIFE. IN 2013, THE SUCCESS RATE WAS 60 PERCENT. SINCE THE BEGINNING, VISION HOUSE HAS HAD A STRONG SUCCESS RATE WITH 87 PERCENT OF ALL RESIDENTS TRANSITIONING TO PERMANENT HOUSING. 2013 WAS AN UNUSUALLY DIFFICULT YEAR FOR THE FAMILIES IN OUR CARE. VISION HOUSE TOOK IN A FEW VERY HIGH RISK CLIENTS WHO LATER ENDANGERED THE REST OF THE COMMUNITY AND SADLY WERE ASKED TO LEAVE. ANOTHER CONTRIBUTING FACTOR TO OUR LOWER THAN NORMAL SUCCESS RATE WAS KING COUNTY HOUSING AUTHORITYS 11-MONTH FREEZE ON HOUSING VOUCHERS, MAKING IT EVEN MORE DIFFICULT TO PLACE CLIENTS WHO WERE READY TO GRADUATE.
