Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Giving foster kids a childhood and a future: we envision and strive to create a world where every child that has experienced foster care has the opportunities and support they need to pursue their dreams and launch successfully into adulthood.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Education engagement: education engagement encompasses various programs that provide education case management, intensive academic advising, tutoring and college and career planning to foster youth in middle and high school to help them graduate high school and plan for their future. After-school, drop-in tutoring, homework help and credit retrieval programs are available year-round at the treehouse learning center, including summer academy, a 5-week program that combines academic remediation, career exploration and enrichment activities.
Activity 3
Educational advocacy: treehouse educational advocates have worked with students, caregivers, social workers and schools to protect foster kids' educational rights and remove barriers. Educational advocacy operates statewide under a contract with the washington children's administration. Advocates' work includes: (1) accessing testing and education-related support services, including special education. (2) preventing school changes when students' home placements change. (3) paving the way for seamless transitions when school changes are unavoidable. (4) minimize the effects of disciplinary action that keep students out of school. And (5)training caregivers, social workers and students to advocate for students' educational rights. The program served 1,396 children during the year.
