Mission and Program Overview

Mission

To be a regionally recognized and nationally influential center of excellence in family theatre: to promote a season of top quality productions; to commission and produce new musicals that achieve national exposure; to train young people in theatre skills for career opportunities and enriched lives; to develop a broad based appreciation for live theatre; to promote positive values through art.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Village Originals is a mission driven program to commission and produce new musicals that achieve national exposure. Through the Village Originals program, new works are produced to various degrees in collaboration with the show's creators. This process helps to foster the growth of new musicals in America and around the world. 1,810 people attended Village Originals programming throughout the year which included the Festival of New Musicals. The Festival, held in Issaquah, features readings and discussion of 6 new musicals over 3 days. Village Theatre is one of only a handful of professional theatre companies throughout the country that commissions and develops new musicals and it's reputation is continuing to grow on a national level.
Activity 3
KIDSTAGE trains young people in theatre skills for career opportunities and enriched lives by offering classes and performance opportunities. KIDSTAGE education programs consist of year-round classes and performance opportunities in 2 locations: Issaquah and Everett, Washington. Enrollment in classes was 2,074 students. KIDSTAGE produced 12 musicals throughout the year between both locations. An audience of 10,496 attended 79 performances. Some of the performance opportunities are provided at no cost to the students; while others are tuition based.

IRS990/ActivityOrMissionDescription0Village Theatres mission is to be a regionally recognized and nationally influential center of excellence in family theatre; to promote a season of top quality productions; to commission and produce new musicals that achieve national exposure; to develop a broad based appreciation for live theatre; to train young people in theatre skills for career opportunities and enriched lives; and to promote positive values through art. Significant activates are: Mainstage which produces 4 musicals and 1 nonmuscial show each season that are geared toward the entire family; Village Originals - a nationally recognized program that develops new musicals; KIDSTAGE - an uniquely designed educational program that uses theatre to build critical life skills in each participant; and Pied Piper which brings the wonderful world of live theatre to children and their families in the greater Puget Sound area by hosting renowned theatre, dance, and music companies for public and school performances.
IRS990/ActivityOther/Description0Pied Piper Presents brings live theatre to young children and school groups, which fosters an appreciation for the arts, promotes family theatre and provides educational opportunties. Pied Piper Presents brings the best of touring theatre shows for children to 3 venues in Everett, Bellevue and Mt. Vernon, Washington. Shows are selected based on educational focus and suitability to foster appreciation for live theatre in children. An audience of 20,028 attended 39 performances, including many that were offered to school groups. 4,820 students attended inschool workshops that were presented to help enhance the student's experience prior to attending the performance at the theatre.
IRS990/ActivityOther/Description1The Everett Performing Arts Center is a separate live theatre facility located in Everett, WA. In addition to our Mainstage productions Village Theatre facilitates a variety of on-stage experiences to Everett audiences, including local chorale groups and children's plays. Over 65,000 patrons attended events during the year. Expenses include direct expenses associated only with outside arts programming and do not include expenses for Village Theatre programs which are required under the management contract with the City of Everett and which are included elsewhere in the program/service accomplishments.
IRS990/ActivityOther/Description2During 2011, the Theatre continued a capital and endowment fund campaign. The campaign proceeds are being used to purchase land, build a new scene, prop and paint shops (Technical Studios), reconstruct First Stage Theatre, convert an Everett City building into a theatre and educational facility, provide financial stability by establishing an endowment, retire the current mortgage and cover the cost of the campaign. The campaign goal as of August 31, 2012 is $13.8 million. As of August 31, 2012, $8.5 million had been pledged or given towards the goal. As of August 31, 2012 the construction of the Technical Studios, the reconstruction of First Stage and the creation of the Everett Youth Education Center (2nd Stage) were completed.
