“The members elect the board of directors.”

After disclosure of the financial interest and all material facts, and after any discussion with the interested person, then the interested person shall leave and be recused while the governing board or committee determines if a conflict of interest exists.”
“The board sets compensation for the executive director and other key employees based on salary surveys of comparable positions in the metropolitan area.”
“Edsc makes its 990, governing documents and conflict of interest policy available on request during normal business hours.”
“Social and recreation at the edmonds waterfront center, we create opportunities for members and visitors to gather learn and celebrate. During the peak of covid we shifted to online classes, averaging more than 500 participants a day. In 2022 we transitioned our classes back to in-person. Staying healthy means keeping both your mind and your body active. The edmonds waterfront center has a variety of programs and fun activities to help participants stay active mentally and socially. Trips - our trips include educational tours, museums, plays and musicals, sporting events, symphony, local festivals or just plain fun explorations. Some examples include: casino trips, science, art, theater, holiday sight seeing, hiking and nature. Entertainment - our members enjoy a wide range of activities and fun filled hours, some examples of activities include: dance, music, art and theater in person events - this includes dinners with live entertainment. Our annual luau event had 200 attendees. The holiday bazaar event features more than 40 crafter tables. Oktoberfest features sing along and communal dining. People of all ages are welcomed and attend our events. Music & dance - music and dance activities are plentiful. New members are more than welcome to join. Our groups include: the sound singers choir, senior swingers orchestra, ukulele, friday dance and line dancing. Fun & games - there's always something fun happening at the senior center. Bingo, bridge, cribbage, pinochle, pool tables and ping pong. We also offer intergenerational events where students and seniors come together for a fun night of trivia or book discussions. Arts, language and history watercolor, drawing, writer's group, modern world history, spanish, german and woodcarving.”
“Health and wellness our health and wellness program aims to encourage proactive personal health through a variety of offerings. These include exercise classes, access to clinicians, workshops, nutritional classes, and a congregate meal program in our community cafe. Our goal is to collaborate with other organizations to remove barriers to access for individuals seeking to improve their health. In partnership with the fred hutch cancer center, we provide mammogram services six times a year. We also collaborate with the seattle visiting nurses association to offer four covid-19 and flu vaccine and booster clinics. As a host site for bloodworks nw, we have collected over 500 units of blood. Furthermore, we have held cooking classes in partnership with washington state university and the edmonds food bank, showcasing food from the edmonds food bank. Using our teaching kitchen and the support of the verdant health commission, we have provided nutritional education to 25 low-income seniors and distributed over $600 worth of coupons for the purchase of fruits and vegetables. We also partner with puget soun kidney center to offer educational cooking demonstrations and workshops around kidney health. In collaboration with our food service partner, we've served over 10,000 lunches to lower income seniors. We have also expanded our exercise programs by offering mindfulness, prenatal, and gentle yoga classes. The edmonds waterfront center (ewc) sponsors the statewide health benefits advisors (shiba) program for snohomish county, skagit county, and camano island in partnership with the washington state office of the insurance commissioner. Trained shiba volunteers help medicare beneficiaries assess healthcare coverage needs, determine eligibility for healthcare coverage programs, evaluate and compare medicare plans and programs, provide enrollment help with medicare, and make referrals to other agencies and programs. Additionally, the shiba volunteers educate residents about health benefits programs to help them identify and report instances of fraud, errors, or abuse of those programs and cultivate community commitment through partnership, service, and volunteering. In 2023, thirty-six highly trained shiba counselors, operating out of the ewc and satellite locations throughout the service area, made over 13,000 contacts with medicare beneficiaries, providing free, confidential, unbiased consumer education, assistance, advising, and advocacy to consumers regarding healthcare topics. Shiba also engaged in outreach opportunities including speaking engagements and promoting services at wellness fairs and community events throughout the service area and taught virtual welcome to medicare classes four times a month.”
“One could easily argue the primary purposes of our thrift store is the encouragement of connections between our volunteers with each other and with the public. The thrift store operates six days a week from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. There are twelve three and one half-hour shifts covered by more than 90 volunteers. There is great kinship among the volunteers that work on a given shift and they often support one another both in and outside of the store's normal hours of operations. Given isolation and the loss of social connections is one of the most debilitating aspects of aging the thrift store success with volunteers and in a number of cases our repeat customers who form strong bonds with the volunteers who serve them our success in this area has encouraged us to expand our volunteer efforts in the rest of our organization. The strength of our volunteer group is also reflected in the numbers. Over an extended period of time our thrift store sales fell within a very narrow dollar range centered around $150,000 a year. Over the past three years our volunteer workforce has tripled in size and they have been encouraged to bring ideas to our attention that will improve store operations. As a result, last year's sales reached an all-time high of $634,056. The thrift store also collects donations from the community and passes them along to other nonprofit groups. This includes clothes for kids, the edmonds foodbank, the snohomish county hygiene center working with the homeless, soloman, an independent operator, collecting items for schools and hospitals in africa and veteran services of edmonds. Over four-thousand bags of donated materials were passed on to these groups with an estimated value of $10 per bag.”
“There are two prior period adjustments to our 2022 990 totaling $37,366. The first was a $35,484 reduction in membership fees. It was determined membership fees should be recognized over a twelve month period based on the month they were received rather than the calendar year. This resulted in a reduction in revenue and an increase in deferred income. The second was a $1,882 adjustment to our 12/31/2022 depreciation balance.”
