Financial Statement Notes

PART V, LINE 4:

The restricted endowment care funds are maintained in accordance with washtington state law. These funds are to provide for the care and maintenance of the cemteries.

PART X, LINE 2:

Fairmount is organized as a washington nonprofit corporation and has been recognized by the internal revenue service (irs) as exempt from federal income taxes under section 501(a) of the internal revenue code as organizations described in section 501(c)(13). Fairmount is annually required to file a return of organization exempt from income tax (form 990) with the irs. In addition, the entity is subject to income tax on net income that is derived from business activities that are unrelated to its exempt purpose. Fairmount files an exempt organization business income tax return (form 990-t) with the irs to report its unrelated business taxable income. Holdings, as a taxable corporation, is subject to income tax on net income derived from its business activities. Each entity evaluates their tax positions on an annual basis. Management has determined that there are no uncertain tax positions at december 31, 2016 and 2015 that meet the criteria for recognition in the financial statements. The entities would recognize future accrued interest and penalties related to unrecognized tax benefits and liabilities in income tax expense if such interest and penalties are incurred.
