- 2010 Accomplishments continued - 10. ISI consolidated the integration of the services assumed in June 2009 from the ARC of Wyoming County. Despite the challenges of increasing services by nearly 30%, the services to individuals continued with no disruption through the transition between agencies.11. Despite various, severe medical issues, ISI was able to support a gentleman in his community home, maintain his health, work closely with his family, and avoid his transfer to a nursing home.12. ISI continued to support a gentleman in the Luzerne County area in owning his own ranch-style home and assisted him in making some major home renovations. The gentleman is competitively employed at a local area business. He was also chosen to be the main speaker at the 2010 Annual Breakfast in Tunkhannock which celebrates the accomplishments of individuals with intellectual disabilities.13. ISI opened a new Community Home in Delaware County, serving three (3) adolescent men.

| IRS990/Description | 0 | Notable accomplishments for fiscal year 2010 include:1. ISI has succeeded in continuing to support approximately 420 individuals, the same number as in the previous year, despite significant funding constraints and new funding methodologies adopted by the State.2. ISI opened a new community home in the Lehigh Valley to serve a young man who had been remanded by the Juvenile Justice Department of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to return from a correctional facility in Virginia back to his home County of Lehigh. Despite a history as both a victim and perpetrator of abuse, he is doing so well that he is being mainstreamed into his local area public high school.3. ISI played a significant role in partnering with the State to effect the re-integration into the community of three (3) women leaving Allentown State Hospital. They are planning to move to their new home to be opened by ISI in the Lehigh Valley in early October 2010.4. In October 2009, the Thompsons, long-time and dedicated ISI Lifesharing providers, received the Excellence in Lifesharing Award, presented by the Northeast Region of the Pennsylvania State Lifesharing Subcommittee. Since 2003 this family has opened their home, their family, and their hearts to a woman with significant physical challenges requiring a level of care that would stagger most natural families - all this in the context of several significant illnesses, hospitalizations, and a tour in Iraq.5. In March 2010, a woman, supported by ISI's Lehigh Valley staff, was presented the Exemplary Citizenship Award at the 2010 Celebration Luncheon sponsored by the ARC of Lehigh and Northampton Counties. This award was given to recognize her contributions to help animals and other charities. She has volunteered through the Kiwanis Club for many years, being instrumental in garnering food and other donations from the community to help animals in need. She also raised money for the American Cancer Society, the Northampton Food Bank, and Habitat for Humanity. She regularly donates her time and money to numerous charities and has inspired family, friends and the community-at-large.6. ISI expanded its service footprint into Berks County, by creating Lifesharing services for one (1) individual and respite services for another. ISI also increased its presence in Northampton County (a county ISI started serving in 2009) by providing services to four (4) individuals choosing to receive their supports through Supported Living or Respite.7. ISI continued to expand home-based services in both Lehigh and Northampton Counties. ISI expanded its services by 30% and is now serving a total of 30 individuals. In connection with these additional services, ISI also increased its staffing complement to fourteen (14) Caseworkers.8. ISI's Supported Living services in the Lehigh Valley maintained the independent living status of twenty six (26) individuals despite the challenges of aging and the complex medical/behavioral challenges often attendant to the aging process.9. ISI continued to be the cornerstone for the Lehigh Valley Giving Back Committee. Through the creation of and participation in local fund raising, ISI consumers raised more than $1,600 given in equal shares to the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association. This group also raised $170 toward the relief work in Haiti following its devastating earthquakes. |
