IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0Environmental Education for K-12. The RMRP presented 122 1-hour interactive presentations to school children and families using slide shows, live bird demonstrations, and props to teach about the importance of wildlife in our world and responsible stewardship of the environment. Each year we reach more than 5,000 school children and families in more than 50 schools through Colorado, with a focus on the school districts in Fort Collins, Loveland, Windsor, Greeley, and Longmont. We enhance the educational opportunities offered by the Colorado School Districts by providing a unique education experience, integrating our presentations into the curriculum of local schools. The formal RMRP environmental education program uses two full-time staff members and more than 40 volunteer bird handlers. Our education presentations use live, non-releasable (permanently injured) birds, slides, puppets, props, and interactive activities to engage students in discussion focused on specific topics including the role of wildlife in our world and responsible behavior toward all animals. This exciting classroom experience can provide a lasting impression on students that help them build on the concepts gained from the standard classroom curriculum. The RMRP Education Director works closely with local and regional school districts and the Colorado Alliance for Environmental Education to ensure that our education program meets the state performance standards for a variety of areas, including the life sciences. Individual presentations are tailored to meet the specific needs of each classroom in terms of content, academic level, and background. Presentations are also offered to community and service groups such as Boys and Girls Club, Base Camp, Boy Scouts, etc., with each presentation tailored to meet the educational and financial needs of the organization. The RMRP gave 40 Behind the Scenes Educational Tours to adults and families, reaching more than 200 people in a close up and personal manner to show them the importance of saving the planet, one raptor at a time.
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0Public Outreach. The RMRP participated in 44 public outreach exhibits in 2016, reaching hundreds of thousands of people. Our trained staff and volunteers talked to the crowds about the importance of wildlife in our world and practicing responsible stewardship of the environment. We also educated the public about opportunities for becoming involved in the program and making a difference in the world. Exhibits include volunteers and staff handling our non-releasable, trained education birds, enabling the public to see birds of prey in a close, personal, and safe setting.PLEASE NOTE ALL PROGRAM SERVICE EXPENSES ARE LISTED WITH THE FIRST ACTIVITY (4A) AS THE EXPENSES ARE CLOSELY INTEGRATED AMONG THE THREE PROGRAM SERVICES AND ACTIVITIES LISTED ON ITEMS; 4A, 4B, AND 4C.
