Form 990, Part III, Line 4A (Cont.) - Program Service Accomplishments

Through our TakeMeHome project, thousands of individuals have tested for STIs and HIV. Hundreds of new HIV and STI cases have been identified through these programs. Our partnership with dating apps is reaching an estimated 2.5M men who have sex with men (MSM) dating app users with features and sexual health information and messages. We worked with Emory to gather data on the uptake of these features and published this article in AIDS and Behavior in early 2024. One example is how we worked with several dating apps, including Grindr and Sniffies to add information in 2023 about doxyPEP, a new prevention option to reduce the likelihood of STI transmission.BHOCs NiceAF project is an effort focused on addressing stigma, discrimination, and other negative experiences on dating apps. NiceAFs work in 2023 focused on substance use on dating apps, which touched on stigma, communication about substance use, access to resources, and recommendations for fundamental changes on apps relating to features that affect users experiences on the apps. In this work, we centered inequities relating to race, criminalization and marginalization regarding who is affected and how people are affected by the complexities of substance use on dating apps. We gathered data from dating app users, harm reduction leaders and dating apps. We created a report with a series of recommendations for dating apps and are now working with dating apps to implement these ideas. In 2022, during the height of the mpox outbreak, BHOC worked closely with dating apps and CDC to put out messages about mpox. We continued this work into 2023 and beyond. We also created a vaccine locator tool to make it easier for apps to share a link that would help all app users find a mpox vaccine near them. This tool was called Mpoxvaxmap.org, and in 2023, it was transitioned to CDC, which is now featured on its mpox information pages.We have also made substantial efforts to disseminate findings from our work that has substantially increased the visibility of Springboard and BHOC. Highlights include an invitation to the White House to acknowledge our contributions to mpox outbreak support and an invitation to brief Assistant Secretary of Health, Admiral Rachel Levine about our self-testing work.Key dissemination and external activities include:HIV self-test cost modeling article published in JAIDSWhite House visit: June 2023NASTAD award: June 2023Judge for National Academy of Sciences and Medicine STI HackathonHIV Biomedical Summit presentation on doxyPEPUSCHA presentation about national self-testing: October 2023PR Week Health-care influencer: November 2023Assistant Secretary of Health, HHS briefing: December 2023

Our CHLI Director presented about this work at the Professional Association of Social Workers in HIV/AIDS in May 2023.The Long COVID Project was spun off to Allied Media Projects to house the project. This project aims to support information and education about Long COVID, including the inclusion of people affected by Long COVID in development of guidelines for research, care, and treatment. Springboard incubated this project during 2022 and the first few months of 2023.

IRS990/Desc0Building Healthy Online Communities (BHOC)In terms of impact, Springboard continues to have out-sized impact given its size, first and foremost through BHOC. As part of the national self-testing program (an expansion of BHOCs TakeMeHome program led by Emory and funded by CDC), we have helped transform HIV testing in the US by playing a major role in the development of a national program. The program directly impacts more than 197,000 individuals who received 367,000 HIV test kits. In 2023, in particular, 26% of those individuals had no prior testing history. BHOCs role in this project was to develop the website design and content (based on the BHOC TakeMeHome model), and also provides customer service and participant feedback for the project. This program was created through formative research and development by Facente Consulting, then grown and expanded under Springboard. In 2023, Springboard accepted a subcontract from San Francisco AIDS Foundation to support education for people with lived experience new to the workforce. The Academy program was integrated into CHLI to create a robust and cohesive workforce development program.
