Additional Explanations

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

We continued to see wonderful volunteer projects in 2017 - 2018. Windermere commercial real estate returned and brought over 130 volunteers who worked over 735 hours of service. Their group transformed lifestart village and gave the property a much needed makeover in preparation of our 15 year celebration. They donated over 6,000 in materials making their total contribution to the agency 21,000. Crisis nurseries: 24/7 free short-term childcare for families in crisis situations and children at-risk of abuse or neglect. 1,319 children made 9,329 visits to the crisis nursery, including 911 overnight stays, 9,124 meals, and over 52,670 hours of care. These service totals also include 138 families experiencing homelessness, who were provided with both daytime and overnight visits. The crisis nurseries provided a safe refuge for 71 children at risk for abuse or neglect and 61 children whose families were involved in domestic violence situations.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4C

Lifestart village: the overall objective of lifestart village is to move single parents with children from dependency to self-sufficiency. During 2018, 12 families left lifestart village: 10 (83%) moved into stable, permanent housing. Lifestart village goals/outcomes: provide housing for homeless or near homeless single-parent families. 67 families served (2018) completion of 3 education classes: parenting, life skills, and financial management. This requirement is mandatory for all phase 1 residents. 81% of parents required to attend, graduated from the course (2018) support parents without a high-school diploma or ged to obtain one. 6 single parents received their ged while in lsv's phase 1 housing (may- dec. 2018) 3 enrolled in a vocational program or college (may-dec. 2018) support efforts to gain employment that will sustain rent and utilities for the family. 33 parents from phase 1 and 2 received new jobs (may-dec. 2018) 67 parents from phase 1 and 2 received an increase in earned income (2018)

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4D

Adoption respite care: in-home respite care for adoptive families. 118 children in 34 families were served in 192 visits totaling over 1,115 hours of care. In-home parenting programs: free in-home parenting support. The family mentor program served 206 individuals in 58 families with in-home support. Financial Statement Notes

Schedule D, Page 3, Part X

The center is exempt from federal income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code and therefore has made no provision for federal income taxes in the accompanying financial statements. In addition, the center has been determined by the internal revenue service not to be a "private foundation" within the meaning of section 509(a) of the internal revenue code. There was no unrelated business income for the year ended june 30, 2018. The organization's forms 990 for the years ending june 30, 2018, 2017, 2016, and 2015 are subject to examination by the irs, generally for three years after they were filed. Generally accepted accounting principles require tax effects from an uncertain tax position to be recognized in the financial statements only if the position is more likely than not to be sustained if the position were to be challenged by a taxing authority. The assessment of the tax position is based solely on the technical merits of the position, without regard to the likelihood that the tax position may be challenged. If an uncertain tax position meets the more-likely-than-not threshold, the largest amount of tax benefit that is greater than 50% likely to be recognized upon ultimate settlement with the taxing authority is recorded. Management has evaluated the tax positions reflected in the organization's tax filings and does not believe that any material uncertain tax positions exist.

IRS990ScheduleD/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0THE CENTER IS EXEMPT FROM FEDERAL INCOME TAXES UNDER SECTION 501(C)(3) OF THE INTERNAL REVENUE CODE AND THEREFORE HAS MADE NO PROVISION FOR FEDERAL INCOME TAXES IN THE ACCOMPANYING FINANCIAL STATEMENTS.
