Mission and Program Overview

Mission

THRIVE! is committed to serving the needs of individuals who have Autism Spectrum Disorders or other neurological, intellectual or developmental disabilities (I/DD) with comorbid challenging behaviors and their families. THRIVE! is determined to improve every aspect of life for people who are impacted by challenging behaviors by providing them with the resources, supports, service and interventions necessary for them to lead productive, meaningful and fulfilling lives with the greatest degree of independence and self-determination possible. THRIVE! is dedicated to helping people who have comorbid challenging behaviors realize their potential and fully participate in, contribute to and benefit from their communities. Where others see problems, THRIVE! sees possibilities. We are preparing to provide direct services, which will include day habilitation, vocational training, family support, therapies and recreational opportunities.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
As a nonprofit startup that operates in a funding ecosystem where it can be difficult to obtain the capital you need to operate quality programs at scale on a sustainable basis, we made the intentional choice to be an all-volunteer organization with no paid staff during our startup phase. This allows us to be both frugal and flexible, to allocate the vast majority of our funds to creating resources and programs for individuals who are impacted by disabilities with comorbid challenging behaviors, and to build capacity in a fiscally responsible manner. While we are raising and saving funds for a facility to house and operate our programs and provide services on a permanent basis, board members and volunteers perform their volunteer work from their homes or other available spaces. Our total operating costs were $887; of that amount $84 was paid as an in-kind donation by the Board President, and $803 were paid from the THRIVE! checking account. We intend to continue to implement smart financial management practices and to keep our expenses to a minimum by making necessary operating expenditures as the need arises.$0$887
Awareness Raising - Raising awareness about comorbid challenging behaviors and how they impact individuals, families, caregivers and communities is a high priority for THRIVE! Enrichment Services. THRIVE! is using business cards, social media, word of mouth and public access television to raise awareness about comorbid challenging behaviors and their potentially devastating effects. THRIVE! invested $409 to pay for promotional informational videos, images and pins to raise awareness about our work and comorbid challenging behaviors on our social media platforms. The Board President paid these expenses as an in-kind donation to THRIVE!$0$409
THRIVE! is currently in its startup phase. Once we have the necessary infrastructure and resources in place, we intend to begin offering direct services to individuals and families in Illinois that are impacted by Autism or I/DD with comorbid challenging behaviors. Specifically, we intend to offer behavior management, day habilitation, vocational training, crisis intervention and family support services; clinical, creative and expressive therapies; and recreational opportunities. While we are in the process of building capacity to provide direct services, we are providing indirect services that are designed to benefit individuals and families that are impacted by comorbid challenging behaviors everywhere in the form of online resources; information, education and awareness campaigns; and THRIVE! creative products--specifically, THRIVE! original music. Part III, Line 28. Online Resources - The THRIVE! Enrichment services website is currently under development. The site has informative articles, original infographics, educational videos and a comprehensive resource guide. THRIVE! has launched its official website! Please visit us online at https://www.iwillhelpyouthrive.org, explore our site learn about us and the people we are dedicated to serving, and check out our massive collection of helpful resources. We incurred expenses for domain registration, renewal, privacy and protection in order to develop our website and get it launched. The Board President paid these expenses as an in-kind donation to THRIVE!$0$340

Supplemental Narrative

Additional Explanations

Form 990-EZ, Part I, Line 16

Internet domain registration, renewal, protection and privacy fees $339.90 (paid in-kind by Board President); Illinois Secretary of State Annual Report filing fee $11 (paid in-kind by Board President); Illinois Secretary of State Certificate of Good Standing $6 (paid in-kind by Board President); Registered agent fee $49 (paid in-kind by Board President); Illinois Attorney General Charitable registration fee $15; TechSoup Quickbooks $168; Tailwind Subscription $119.94; Annual Audit fee $300; Illinois Charitable Bureau Fee $200

Form 990-EZ, Part I, Line 20

A check for $200 was written to the Illinois Attorney General Charitable Bureau. Although the check was sent in December 2022, it was not cashed until February 2023. Therefore, the $200 was still part of our checking account balance until it was cashed and deducted from our account. For the aforementioned reasons, our checking account balance at the end of the year had what appeared to be an "extra" $200.
