“Transition zone's vision is to provide a loving, safe, and equitable space for equipping youth and families with life skills, workforce skills, and entrpreneurship development empowering them to thrive in their life's purpose. The youth learn more about themselves through self-assessment activities, understand their core values and goals, and attend conflict resolution workshops. They learn business and dining etiquette, basic workforce expectations and protocol, collaboration and team-building exercises. Additional workforce preparation includes interviewing skills, completing a job application, writing a basic resume, and selecting appropriate workplace attire. In the first year of the program, transition zone served 25 minority students from 16 different schools in the kansas city area. Participating youth received a stipend of 8 per hour on a bi- weekly basis and attended three hours on saturday during the school year and four hours daily for two months in the summer.”
