“As part of EmpowerTHEM Collective's commitment to transparency, compliance, and sound governance, the organization follows a structured review process for its annual IRS Form 990 filing. This process includes the following steps: Preparation and Initial Review: The Form 990 is prepared in collaboration with the Executive Director and operations team. The draft form is reviewed for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with the organization's financial records and programmatic reporting. Internal Staff Review: Once the draft is prepared, key leadership staff-including the Executive Director, and Program Leads-review the document to ensure that all program accomplishments and financial disclosures accurately reflect the organization's activities for the reporting year. Board Review and Approval: A complete draft of Form 990 is presented to the Board of Directors during a scheduled meeting. Board members receive the form in advance to allow adequate time for review and discussion. During the meeting, leadership walks through key sections of the form and answers questions to ensure board understanding and oversight. The board formally votes to approve the filing before submission. Filing and Public Availability: Upon board approval, the Form 990 is submitted to the IRS electronically by the organization's designated tax preparer. A copy of the final, filed Form 990 is retained in organizational records and is made available to the public upon request, in compliance with IRS Section 6104. Post-Filing Review and Documentation: Following submission, the form is archived internally and a summary is included in the organization's compliance tracker. The operations team evaluates the review process annually to identify any improvements for future filings.”
