“Primary Exempt Purpose: yehaw Indigenous Creatives Collectives mission is to help improve Indigenous mental and emotional health outcomes through art-making, community building, and equitable creative opportunities for personal and professional growth. Part III, Line 28, Program Accomplishments: BLM and Covid Online Art Exhibitions: Launched two online exhibitions as part of continuing Covid relief and BLM solidarity work, Telling Our Own Stories: Afro-Indigenous Creatives, a show creating a space for Black Native and Black Indigenous voices from the western hemisphere to be able to tell our own stories, and Being A Good Ancestor: Indigenous Responses to Covid, that asked how to be a good ancestor as we go through this era of COVID-19, a continuing Civil Rights Movement, and political strife. Through a panel process we selected over 30 artists who were paid for their contribution to the show. The exhibitions were curated by Brit Reed (Choctaw/Black), in collaboration with a community advisory panel, as part of yehaws Covid Part III, Line 29, Program Accomplishments: Seattle CANOES commissions:Worked with Seattles CANOES (City of Seattle Native American Employees) to commission poster designs by local Indigenous artists for their annual Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration. We commissioned two posters by two different artists, which were then printed and gifted to the community and available to circulate widely online to spread in celebration and awareness. CANOES exists to create an active network of informed and interested employees who wish to help guide the future growth of the Native American and Indigenous people, Community and other people of color. CANOES encourages and promotes members to work with each other, learn from each other, develop new leadership skills together, and improve each members capacity for growth. CANOES also raises, addresses and advances issues that are important to the Native American community within the City of Seattle and its surrounding communities.”
