Founder Julia Wilmot Julia is the mother of two sons and has over thirty years of entrepreneurial business experience. Shes served as a secondary school special education and college teacher fundraiser and creator of highly successful prevention programs for children. She developed implemented and raised funds for Project Prevention a program that reached over 600,000 youth in Arizona in the 1990s. This program served as a model for prevention programs throughout the United States. In 2003 she was awarded Woman of the Year for her thirty years of community leadership and service in Arizona. ALAs Commitment to Youth ALAs experience is that children who participate in the Hope for the Future training programs show significant personal growth an increase in self-esteem confidence and problem-solving skills. With ALAs skilled guidance each child has a stronger commitment to community service and experiences an overall increase in their ability to make a difference in the quality of their lives the lives of their families and lives of their friends. Youth Leadership Kick-Off Conference This intense 2-day leadership program teaches leadership traits communication skills problem solving teamwork and community service. Students spend two days with highly trained and qualified facilitators experiencing leadership in such a way that they can take the learning and apply it to real-life situations. The use of skits games and workbooks keep students engaged with the learning. Students learn to solve their everyday problems build self-confidence and learn to become role-models for their friends and families. | Ongoing Leadership Training The conference has traditionally been used as a Kick-Off to year-round leadership programming but may also be used as a culminating event. Those students involved in the 6-week or 36-week leadership programs assist in presentation and facilitation of the conference material increasing their learning and giving them a chance to apply what theyve learned. Junior Leader Program The Junior Leader Program is a year-round program that gives leaders in-depth training in leadership skills including character traits problem solving teambuilding and service. Junior Leaders meet every six weeks with well-trained volunteer facilitators to learn leadership skills and apply them while doing service in the community. Junior Leaders are required to attend each meeting participate in service activities and show leadership at home at school and in their communities. Junior Leaders can earn Leadership Pins throughout the year as they complete activities to show their understanding of the Four Pillars of the Leadership Training Institute apply that understanding in various areas of their lives and then take their leadership to new levels with in-depth projects. After-School Programs At the request of school districts and when money is available ALA partners with schools and the State to train students to become responsible leaders within their schools families and communities. Angels On Earth Angel Light Academy is a non-denominational training organization giving guidance support and hope to adults and children of all ages.
