“In 2024 we held both in person and online gatherings. We held generally monthly zoom meetings of the karma chameleon club, a donor social club to chat with organizers and volunteers and view recordings of starwood workshops and concerts. Our winterstar symposium took place online via zoom between february 8-11, 2024 as a fundraiser. We provided classes, concerts, a community chat channel, and audio-visual performances online. About half of the 100+ attendees were volunteers; many donated money in addition to their time. Our goal was two-fold: bringing together our starwood community online to socialize and raising the starting funds to put on our yearly community-building camping event: the starwood festival, which took place at wisteria event site in pomeroy, ohio july 9-15, 2024. About 700 people attended the 44th starwood festival, over 300 of whom were recipients of work-scholarships, who might not otherwise afford to attend. We presented approximately 150 workshops, and curated approximately 50 separate live performances by musicians, dancers, and other performing artists, including african and woman-led groups. With cleveland foundation funding, we started a stipend-paid intern program this year, with our experienced stage hands teaching students in the recording arts technology program at cuyahoga community college how to put on a series of successful outdoor concerts on different types of stages. We also fostered artistic and economic opportunities through our vibrant vending community. And our community helped create elaborate outreach cards later mailed to elderly/infirm former attendees who could no longer attend, which were received with unexpected delight. We are honored to be "america's longest running transformational festival".”
