Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The mission of the Black Healing Fund is to assist in the fight against the mental health and economic impact of anti-blackness racism on Black and Brown communities and to both create and directly support programs as well as individuals prioritizing the continued healing of Black and Brown communities specifically prioritizing Black communities in Snohomish County. Our work is centered on four key pillars: 1. Awareness and Advocacy; 2. Education and Empowerment; 3. Decolonizing Access; 4. Stronger Partnerships. Our major programs are: 1 Chakula Ni Lazma Food is a human right--provide emergency food; Youth Academic and Mentorship afterschool; Mental Health Outreach; Community Engagement; and Housing and Utilities Services Akazu. We also have two additional projects: Agapira An annual winter jackets drive through which we provide winter coats to our community members and Our Annual Back To School Drive through which we provide back to school supplies to our community.

We continued to provide rental and utilities assistance as well as food support though our Akazu Housing and Chakula Ni Lazma Food is a human right programs. We served a total of 303 community members in 2023. Through our Akazu Program we met 75% percent of requests that were emergencies in nature meaning there were 30 days evictions and shutoff notices. We were able to prevent every single one of these notices from going into effect thus allowing our families in need time and space to think and plan on how to continue meeting their basic needs.$0$23,730
Our Back To School project was specifically designed to provide back to school assistance to our students and their families which includes adults who are attending school. In 2023 we were able to meet the needs of our community both for youth and young adults as well as returning adults. We provided 235 filled backpacks. Among supplies that were provided included notebooks pens and pencils some chromebooks calculators index cards water bottles and other specifically requested and required supplies which include boxers and shoes.$0$10,587
Our AGAPIRA Winter jackets drive is another project through which we are able to provide winter jackets to our community every year. We delivered 100% of the 291 requested jackets which included for adults youth young adults children and infants.$0$6,852
Our Youth Academics and support provides different types of support with a major focus on after school activities. We partner with other providers like the YMCA and Boys Girls Clubs as well as other providers to ensure that our kids have access to needed services especially after school and summer programs which keep them busy and out our trouble at a discounted rate which we always cover 100%. We served 167 youth in 2023.$0$6,462
