| PeacePark - The focus of the Stillmeadow PeacePark is to promote a creation connected focus on spiritual health, said Pastor Michael. Right here in this urban setting, which is ripe for a renewed appreciation of the power of a healthy natural ecosystem and desperate for long-range investment in a healthy human ecosystem, is where a peace park needs to thrive.---Green spaces, such as parks, playgrounds and urban forests have been found to build stronger neighborhoods and social connections, reduce stress, and support physical health by creating opportunities for physical activity. | $33,645 | - |
| Stillmeadow PeacePark Leaning Center - In response to the need for accessible technology and internet as expressed by our local residents and schools (Beechfield, North Bend, and Edmondson), Stillmeadow Community Projects, Inc., in partnership with Libraries Without Borders, officially launched the Stillmeadow PeacePark Learning Center (Learning Center) on February 22, 2022. During this endeavor, we successfully purchased 10 Lenovo laptops, received a donation of 10 desktops from Roland Park Country School, and transformed the church into a digitally equipped learning center. The Learning Center aims to provide a safe and trusted space in Southwest Baltimore, where up to 30 students per day can access computers, the internet, and supplemental education in a supervised environment. The Learning Center is currently equipped to serve students in grades 3-12 and will operate at 50% capacity while evidence of the Covid-19 pandemic persists. As a result, we set up our space to accommodate 15 students: 5 elementary, 5 middle, and 5 high schools. It operates weekly from Monday-Wednesday, 2:45pm-5:45pm. Thus far, there are 7 students enrolled in the Learning Center: 3 elementary school students, 3 middle school students, and 1 high school student. We have a dedicated staff team of 6 program facilitators, who lead our students through debriefing and processing their school day, homework completion, tutoring sessions, reading times, and engaging enrichment activities. These activities include but are not limited to, students reading to each other, going on hikes in the PeacePark, writing and illustrating their own comic books, and helping to care for and track the development of tadpoles. We will continue to provide students with local support and programming during after school hours and throughout the summer break. We have forged a partnership with Temple X Schools to launch a 7-week nature-based Saturday Summer Learning Program. We will use the PeacePark to connect 15 boys in grades K-8 to nature while wrapping in science, technology, and literacy. Temple X is an early childhood educational model using innovative strategies dedicated to solving worldwide problems on behalf of young children. The summer session for youth will begin on June 25, 2022 and end on August 6, 2022. We have also teamed with Byte Back to become a host site for their Computer Foundations courses. Byte Backs mission is to close the digital divide by providing under-resourced communities an equitable pathway into the digital economy. The classes at our site are slated to begin this summer. | $22,857 | $23,875 |
| USDA, Forrest Sevice Peace Park Coop -Research demonstrates the importance of green spaces such as these for public health and well-being as well as for community health and resilience.---These urban woodlands were ecologically degraded, with dead ash trees that had succumbed to emerald ash borer and invasive vines that choked the native trees. After cleaning up the site and removing invasive species, Northern Research Station scientists worked with area residents and church members to plant native trees like oaks, sweet gum, and magnolias. | Baltimore City Community Resiliency Hubs partner with the City to provide essential resources and community support in under-resourced neighborhoods during times of crisis. They serve as a space where vulnerable neighbors can gather in times of emergency, utilize their facilities for community-based staging areas for emergency and recovery personnel, and act as conduits for critical supply distribution to the community. | - | - |
