“Many nonprofit agencies to house over 800 homeless veterans, briinging the state close to a level of homelessness among veterans referred to as functional zero where any newly homeless veteran can be rehoused in 30 days. "the coalition expanded the new mexico system of coordinated assessment. The purpose of the system is to locate those homeless people with the highest need for housing and give them priority for openings in housing programs, and to assist housing agencies to quickly find qualified candidates for their housing. "the coalition has led the effort to develop more permanent supportive housing for homeless people with disabilities. By 2015 member agencies operated enough permanent supportive housing to house over 2,000 people. There were less than 400 such beds available in new mexico prior to the coalition's founding. "the coalition has also worked with its members to increase the supply of transitional housing and rapid rehousing for homeless people without disabilities. In 2015 we worked with several member agencies to convert transitional housing programs to the more efficient rapid rehousing model. "in 2015 the coalition held its fourth statewide conference on homelessness. We gatherers 229 people from around the state to learn about the best practices for assisting homeless people, and to hear about current events and advocacy issues. The conference featured local and national experts in the field. "the coalition continues to raise funds through its advisory board and its veterans helping homeless veterans committee to share with direct service agencies that are doing good work with homeless people. "the new mexico coalition to end homelessness has been leading advocacy efforts to end homelessness, and secured modest gains in funding in 2015. "the coalition serves as the lead agency for the new mexico homeless management information system (hmis). In 2014, the coalition integrated its coordinated assessment survey into the hmis so that assessments can be viewed by participating housing agencies. "the coalition provided workshops during the year on the best practice for assisting homeless people with disabilities to obtain their social security benefits. The model taught is called the soar model and it is effective in helping people obtain their benefits and get into housing within a matter of months. Without help from a soar trained case manager some homeless people with disabilities wait years to get benefits they are entitled to.”
“Nmceh annually evaluates all federal and state income tax positions. This process includes an analysis of whether these income tax positions the organization takes meet the definition of an uncertain tax position under the income taxes topic of the financial accounting standards codification. As of september 30, 2015 there were no uncertain tax positions noted. Nmceh's policy is to classify income tax penalties and interest, when applicable, according to their natural classification. Under the statute of limitations, nmceh's tax returns are no longer subject to examination by tax authorities for years prior to 2012.”

| IRS990/Desc | 0 | THE NEW MEXICO COALITION TO END HOMELESSNESS CONTINUED TO WORK ALONGSIDE ITS 70 MEMBER AGENCIES IN THE COLLABORATIVE GOAL TO END HOMELESSNESS IN NEW MEXICO. OUR EFFORTS THIS YEAR HAVE FOCUSED ON HOUSING ALL HOMELESS VETERANS IN NEW MEXICO AS PART OF THE ZERI: 2016 INITIATIVE. WE ALSO WORKED ON EXPANDING A SYSTEM OF COORDINATED ASSESSMENT, EXPANDING HOUSING AND SERVICES FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE HOMELESS, ADVOCATING FOR BETTER LOCAL, STATE, AND FEDERAL POLICIES RELATED TO HOMELESSNESS, AND ENCOURAGING AGENCIES TO USE BEST PRACTICES TO HELP HOMELESS PEOPLE REINTEGRATE INTO LOCAL COMMUNITIES. SOME OF THE SPECIFIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS FOR THE YEAR ARE: "THE COALITION COORDINATED THE EFFORTS OF SEVERAL GOVERNMENT AGENCIES AND MANY NONPROFIT AGENCIES TO HOUSE OVER 800 HOMELESS VETERANS, BRIINGING THE STATE CLOSE TO A LEVEL OF HOMELESSNESS AMONG VETERANS REFERRED TO AS FUNCTIONAL ZERO WHERE ANY NEWLY HOMELESS VETERAN CAN BE REHOUSED IN 30 DAYS. WITHOUT HELP FROM A SOAR TRAINED CASE MANAGER SOME HOMELESS PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES WAIT YEARS TO GET BENEFITS THEY ARE ENTITLED TO. |
