During the year we expanded the system to more parts of new mexico "the coalition has led the effort to develop more permanent supportive housing for homeless people with disabilities. By 2016 member agencies operated enough permanent supportive housing to house over 2,000 people. There were less than 400 such beds available in new mexico prior to the coalition's founding. "in 2016 the coalition held its fifth statewide conference on homelessness and gathered over 200 people from around the state to learn about the best practices for assisting homeless people, and to hear about current events and advocacy issues. The conference featured local and national experts in the field. We plan to continue this annual event. "the coalition continues to raise funds through its advisory board and its veterans helping homeless veterans committee to share with direct service agencies that are doing good work with homeless people. "the new mexico coalition to end homelessness has been leading advocacy efforts to end homelessness. At the state legislature the coalition was able to retain the state's investment of about 2 million in programs for homeless people during a year when the state budget allowed for no growth. "the coalition serves as the lead agency for the new mexico homeless management information system (hmis). Data from this system is helping guide the continuing response to homelessness. "the coalition contracted with two consultants from colorado to try and stimulate more supportive housing development in new mexico through a series of toolkit workshops and one on one technical assistance to be started in 2017. "the coalition provided training during the year on the best practice for assisting homeless people with disabilities to obtain their social security benefits. The model taught is called the soar model and it is effective in helping people obtain their benefits much more quickly.”
“Nmceh annually evaluates all federal and state income tax positions. This process includes an analysis of whether these income tax positions the organization takes meet the definition of an uncertain tax position under the income taxes topic of the financial accounting standards codification. As of september 30, 2016 there were no uncertain tax positions noted. Nmceh's policy is to classify income tax penalties and interest, when applicable, according to their natural classification. Under the statute of limitations, nmceh's tax returns are no longer subject to examination by tax authorities for years prior to 2013”

OUR EFFORTS THIS YEAR HAVE FOCUSED ON EXPANDING THE SYSTEM OF COORDINATED ASSESSMENT, EXPANDING HOUSING AND SERVICES FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE HOMELESS THROUGH A NEW SERIES OF TOOLKIT WORKSHOPS, ADVOCATING FOR BETTER LOCAL, STATE, AND FEDERAL POLICIES RELATED TO HOMELESSNESS, AND ENCOURAGING AGENCIES TO USE BEST PRACTICES TO HELP HOMELESS PEOPLE REINTEGRATE INTO LOCAL COMMUNITIES. SOME OF THE SPECIFIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS FOR THE YEAR ARE: "THE COORDINATED ASSESSMENT SYSTEM HAS THE GOAL OF LOCATING THOSE HOMELESS PEOPLE WITH THE HIGHEST NEED FOR HOUSING AND GIVING THEM PRIORITY FOR OPENINGS IN HOUSING PROGRAMS, AND TO ASSIST HOUSING AGENCIES TO QUICKLY FIND QUALIFIED CANDIDATES FOR THEIR HOUSING. DURING THE YEAR WE EXPANDED THE SYSTEM TO MORE PARTS OF NEW MEXICO "THE COALITION HAS LED THE EFFORT TO DEVELOP MORE PERMANENT SUPPORTIVE HOUSING FOR HOMELESS PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES. BY 2016 MEMBER AGENCIES OPERATED ENOUGH PERMANENT SUPPORTIVE HOUSING TO HOUSE OVER 2,000 PEOPLE. THERE WERE LESS THAN 400 SUCH BEDS AVAILABLE IN NEW MEXICO PRIOR TO THE COALITION'S FOUNDING. "IN 2016 THE COALITION HELD ITS FIFTH STATEWIDE CONFERENCE ON HOMELESSNESS AND GATHERED OVER 200 PEOPLE FROM AROUND THE STATE TO LEARN ABOUT THE BEST PRACTICES FOR ASSISTING HOMELESS PEOPLE, AND TO HEAR ABOUT CURRENT EVENTS AND ADVOCACY ISSUES.
