Activity 2

Core program - activities under this program include certification courses for recycling and composting, general membership services, legislative advocacy, and other on-going recycling initiatives. General membership & public services: nmrc provides a website, online searchable recycling directory, listserv, monthly electronic newsletter and a membership directory to its members. Also takes calls from public as a public service. Nmrc serves on local and national boards and recycling task forces. Nmrc has more than 250 members.recycling and compost facility operators certification courses: two recycling and two composting courses were held in 2012. 120 students attended these classes, allowing them to certify or re-certify as a solid waste professional in the state and fulfill state regulation requirement.

Activity 3

Education and outreach - activities under this program include, the biennial recycling conference (which takes place every other year); the annual meeting, which takes place in the nonconference years; and recycle new mexico which is a year-round education and outreach program that includes new mexico recycling awareness month (november) and america recycles day activities and supports targeted community education campaigns.nmrc hosted a two-day professional conference entitled, new mexico recycling conference 2012 "recycling: new mexico's expanding landscape" in june of 2012, presenting information on the state of recycling in new mexico, outreach and education, full cost accounting, materials marketing, pay-as-you-throw, organics and more. 264 professionals attended.recycle new mexico is a year-round education and outreach program that included new mexico recycling awareness month (november) and america recycles day activities and supports targeted community education campaigns. The 2012 campaign targeted commercial recycling. Nmrc reached out to 15 targeted communities: albuquerque, santa fe, las cruces, taos, silver city, otero county, deming, truth or consequences, gallup, grants, torrance county, raton, las vegas, angel fire and los alamos county and held 10 professional trainings attended by more than 150 businesses. Launched partnership with nm green chamber of commerce, the nmsu institute for energy and the environment and the nm environment department green zia environmental leadership program. Made connections with local chambers of commerce as well. Distributed 2,000 "this business recycles" entry-way decals in targeted communities and provided 15 starter business recycling bin sets and 500 under-desk business recycling bins.
