Mission

S.M.A.R.T BUS is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing educational equity emotional wellness and community empowerment for underserved youth and families. Our primary purpose is to deliver culturally responsive trauma-informed programs that close academic achievement gaps and promote holistic development. We achieve this by offering hands-on learning experiencesincluding STEAM education creative arts and therapeutic servicesthrough mobile outreach school partnerships and seasonal programs such as summer camps. In addition we develop multimedia educational content and community-based projects that raise awareness about social issues such as domestic violence human trafficking and historical preservation. Through these efforts S.M.A.R.T BUS empowers children supports families in crisis and collaborates with schools and community stakeholders to build a more just and informed society

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Books By Us is a project-based literacy and empowerment program designed to support youth in developing their writing storytelling and creative expression skills while building confidence and entrepreneurial awareness. During the reporting period 13 students participated in the program and successfully authored and published 7 original childrens books. The program fostered core literacy skills including reading comprehension writing fluency and grammar while also encouraging creativity and ownership through the book development and publishing process. Students learned about editing illustration marketing and public speaking as they presented their work to live audiences of over 200 children in schools and community events. This initiative served not only the young authors but also the broader community by promoting culturally relevant literature and inspiring peer engagement around reading and storytelling.$4,000$4,200
The See Me program was developed to educate youth and raise awareness about issues such as domestic violence and human trafficking through creative expression. As part of this initiative high school students participated in drama-based workshops and rehearsals to prepare for their roles in a short educational film. Students received instruction in acting techniques character development and emotional expression while building public speaking and teamwork skills. The program supported social-emotional growth creative confidence and provided real-world exposure to performing arts and film production. The resulting short film will be used as part of a broader curriculum to reach youth across schools and community organizations.$0$2,500
This hands-on videography program provided middle school high school students and young adults with professional training in video production for social media advertising and commercial use. Led by a professional videographer the program equipped 9 students with skills in filming editing sound and visual storytelling. Participants received personalized technical mentoring and produced high-quality video content some of which was used by community organizations serving audiences of over 50 individuals. The program emphasized workforce development media literacy and creative entrepreneurship giving students real-world experience in a growing digital media industry.$1,500$1,500
Students participated in structured orchestra and piano lessons designed to enhance musical skills discipline and self-expression. Through this program participants gained foundational knowledge in music theory instrumental performance and ensemble collaboration.
