Mission

To provide Christ-centered child care (infants and toddlers) to low-income single parents and their children

The mission of project one day is to bring the love and safety of jesus christ to infants and toddlers in need. Children fall prey to abuse and neglect when families cannot afford quality childcare. To keep children safe, we created a unique childcare staffing model which reduces costs and improves quality of care.

EACH WEEK, PARENTS VOLUNTEER ONE WEEKDAY TO RECEIVE A 5-DAY, M-F CHILDCARE SCHOLARSHIP SO THEY CAN WORK OR SCHOOL. PARENT TRAINING INCLUDES PEDIATRIC CPR AND FIRST AID CERTIFICATION AND 30 HOURS OF TRAINING IN EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT. CLASSWORK INCLUDES CONTENT ON SIDS/ AHT, RECOGNIZING THE SIGNS OF ABUSE AND NEGLECT, AND DEVELOPMENTAL MILESTONES. THIS MODEL IS COST-EFFECTIVE BECAUSE 60% OF CHILDCARE BUDGETS GO TO PAYING TEACHING STAFF. AT PROJECT ONE DAY 2/3 OF OUR STAFF ARE VOLUNTEERS, THUS REDUCING OVERALL OPERATING COST BY 50%. DONORS CONTRIBUTE TO COVERING THIS TUITION, AND PARENTS CONTRIBUTE BY VOLUNTEERING ONE 8-HOUR SHIFT PER WEEK IN THE CLASS. THE RESULT IS A CONNECTED AND EQUIPPED PARENT COMMUNITY. RESULTS: IN THE SUMMER OF 2024, PROJECT ONE DAY CLOSED ITS PILOT, LIMITED TO 12 CHILDREN IN NEED, TO CREATE A FULL-SCALE LICENSED AND REGULATED CHILDCARE CENTER TO SERVE 35 CHILDREN IN NEED. THIS DECISION REDUCED OUR PROGRAM COST PER CHILD ENROLLED BY 25%. THIS NEW 4K SQ FT. CENTER WAS CREATED BY RENOVATING UNUSED CHURCH SPACE IN EXCHANGE FOR FREE RENT. PARTICIPATING CHILDREN RECEIVED FREE DIAPERS, HEALTHY MEALS, CURRICULUM, AND DAILY SCHEDULES. EIGHTY PERCENT OF PARTICIPATING PARENTS ARE SINGLE. BETWEEN PILOT PARTICIPANTS AND PREPARATION FOR THE NEW CENTER, PARENTS COMPLETED OVER 1000 HOURS OF TRAINING IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION. TO QUALIFY, PARENTS MUST BE WORKING 25 HOURS A WEEK OR BE IN 9 HOURS OF COLLEGE, AND HAVE AN INCOME LESS THAN 85% OF THE STATE MEDIAN INCOME.
