IRS990/Desc0In 2022, The Appellate Project (TAP) accomplished the following: (1) Launched the third year of our flagship Mentorship Program, which provides law students of color interested in appellate practice with the mentorship, access, and encouragement they need to pursue this important area of legal practice. In the past year, 138 law students of color from 46 law schools went through this program. Many of them obtained highly competitive federal appellate and state supreme court clerkships, appellate advocacy fellowships, and appellate positions in law firms, public defenders' offices, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies. Ninety percent of them said they felt more empowered to pursue clerkships and appellate work. You can read more about our impact at https://theappellateproject.org/our-students. (2) Launched a pilot program that pairs TAP alums with additional mentors focused on our graduates' developing professional needs. (3) Held over 25 innovative and impactful events for students, alums, and mentors participating in the Mentorship Program, designed specifically to empower our students to pursue appellate work; (4) Represented TAP and discussed the importance of a racially diverse appellate baron panels and conferences around the country. (5) Developed partnerships with leading appellate nonprofit organizations, law schools, and racial justice organizations in the legal field and appellate groups around the country. (6) Received extensive coverage in media outlets, such as the Washington Post, Associated Press News, USA Today, and more. (See theappellateproject.org/news).
