Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Assist wounded warriors with military medical separation.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Under the purview of the secondary program, codenamed Operation Dienekes Legend, Arc of Justice was able to secure positive outcomes for clients who have already been harmed in IDES through a "re-look" authorized by the Army Board For The Correction of Military Records (ABCMR). All ABCMR appellate cases take at least 200+ hours of preparation, so the principal will only take these cases on as schedule allows. Because the demand far outweighs the principal's ability to offer pro bono services while staying financially solvent, Arc of Justice has partnered with other organizations to be able to refer individuals toward additional legal services to help navigate issues outside the scope of what Arc of Justice provides. This has allowed our organization to help connect our target population with tailored advocacy and to focus in more thoroughly on those specifically navigating IDES. A sacred tenet in our organization's ethos is that we will never turn away a wounded warrior without helping them, including but not limited to listening to their story and making the appropriate referral if we cannot assist them according to our founding charter. A large part of the year was devoted to making the public aware of our soldiers' challenges through education and presentations. Our principal was able to educate the public about the tragic plight of wounded warriors by speaking at conferences, and through multiple interviews in the public square. These included interviews on well-known podcasts with thought leaders who have become concerned about the complication for wounded warriors in navigating the U.S. government's and Dept of Defense's systems to obtain the assistance they need. Groups ranged in size from approx. 1500 to tens of thousands and potentially hundreds of thousands.$0$64,970
In 2022, Arc of Justice's main program, codenamed Operation Spartan Dagger, offered advocacy services for active-duty wounded warriors in the United States Armed Forces. Each individual served is enrolled in, or is about to be enrolled in, the Integrated Disability Evaluation System (IDES). Services provided include: advocating for the individual with their military command, with a bureaucrat from the Defense Health Agency (DHA), obtaining relief through Congressional Requests For Assistance, and/or providing knowledge of how lDES works so the wounded warrior can successfully navigate the system in order to secure the best possible outcome before their transition to becoming a veteran and civilian. For the first time in Arc of Justice's history, our principal began a Military Reserve Servicemembers and Appellate representation program.$0$32,500
Finally, the tertiary program codenamed Operation David's Slingshot, led to bipartisan legislation being passed in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). House Resolution 8081 was supported by the following 7 Republicans and 7 Democrats. COSPONSORS: Reps Brian Mast, Rick Larsen, Michael Waltz, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, Cathy McMorris Rodgers, and Scott Franklin, Kai Kahele, Jared Golden, Salud Carbajal, Jim Baird, Josh Gottheimer, Chrissy Houlahan, Peter Meijer, Mikie Sherill. This is a remarkable display of unity between Democrats and Republicans in a time of hyper-partisanship. Also, just as importantly, H.R. 8081 was officially endorsed by the following Veteran Service Organizations (VSO) which all have a much larger span of influence than Arc of Justice: ENDORSEMENTS: AMVETS, Disabled American Veterans, Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the U.S., Fleet Reserve Association, For Country Caucus, K9s for Warriors, Military Order of the Purple Heart, National Guard Association of the U.S., Navy League, Non- Commissioned Officers Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars. We are cautiously optimistic that 2023 could be the year when landmark legislation entitled the Wounded Warrior Bill of Rights will become the law of the land thereby remedying the problem for with this organization was founded.$0$5,969
