“Operacion san andres sponsors two mission trips each year from the united states to provide volunteer services to the community of collique, peru. Mission trip participants include several physicians, nurses and other volunteers who provide medical care. Each mission team also includes several volunteers who do construction projects in collique such as building or renovating small family dwellings. Grants from operacion san andres were used to purchase medications and building materials used by the mission team volunteers. The peruvian non-profit, osa-peru, sponsors a program called "talita cumi" which provides education to women in collique regarding the causes and prevention of domestic violence. Grants from operacion san andres are used for the salary of the social worker who coordinates this program and also for educational materials regarding domestic violence. Osa-peru has a telemedicine program where people with chronic illnesses can be consulted, via internet video, by a volunteer physician in the united states. Grants from operacion san andres were used to purchase medications for the benefit of patients in the telemedicine program.”
